Tristan Thompson has been stepping it up when it comes to his family, and following the recent tragic passing of his mother Andrea, the NBA star has filed for legal guardianship of his younger brother Amari Thompson, who is 17.
Tristan has been very active in his brother’s life, and since their mother Andrea passed away at just 53 years old from a heart attack, he took it a step further. Amari has multiple medical diagnoses that affect his day-to-day life and he is unable to care for himself, thus Tristan is stepping in as his guardian.
Amari is already living in Los Angeles with the basketball star. According to TMZ, he will also receive $103,475 due to Andrea’s passing and his assets will be protected by Tristan. The siblings are not acquainted with their father Trevor, leaving Tristan as Amari’s only caregiver, alongside his two other brothers Dishawn and Daniel.
News of Andrea’s Death Was Aired on Hulu’s The Kardashians
As we reported, on Hulu’s The Kardashians the news of Andrea’s passing was aired with Khloe and family heading to Toronto to be by Tristan’s side.While filming a private confessional, Khloé shared the conversation she had with the father of her children after learning that his mother had died. “Tristan called me. I didn’t really understand what he was saying,” she began. “He was just screaming on the phone trying to tell me that she was gone. But I had no idea what he was talking about. I was really close to Andrea. We spoke every single day,” the reality star said about Andrea’s January passing. “Andrea is only 53 years old and she leaves behind four boys: Dishawn, Daniel, and Amari. And Amari is 16 and he is severely disabled and it is just really sad. Because we don’t know what he knows or doesn’t know cognitively.”
During the show, it was also later revealed that Tristan and his brother Amari were living with Khloe amidst a housing issue. “Tristan’s roof caved in on his home and caused flooding,” Khloé, 39, said during the finale. “So Tristan and [his youngest brother] Amari are staying at my house now until his home gets fixed.” Despite their Rocky relationship, Khloe went on to say, “I’m grateful that I’m strong enough and brave enough to be a support system for someone else that has no other support system right now.”
Back when Andrea initially passed, Tristan shared an emotional post to his social media paying tribute to their matriarch. He

I’m in the deepest part of sorrow & grief,” he wrote alongside photos of them. “My soul is empty as I come to terms that my biggest supporter/superhero is gone. I cannot thank you enough for always being a woman of faith, being one of Gods warriors, fighting back with whatever the world threw our way. You constantly protected us through prayer. My hero you fought all the battles you needed to and it was time for you to go home. Man, What I wouldn’t give to hear ur voice.”
