AUGUSTA, Ga. - Former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and celebrity disc jockey DJ AM are expected to fully recover from burns they suffered in a fiery South Carolina jet crash that killed the other four people aboard, one of their doctors said Sunday.

Dr. Fred Mullins, medical director of the Joseph M. Still Burn Center, said the two suffered second- and third-degree burns but had no other injuries from the crash that one witness described as a fireball shooting across a highway.

"Anybody who can survive a plane crash is pretty lucky," Mullins told reporters during a news conference Sunday morning.

Barker was burned on his torso and lower body and DJ AM, whose real name is Adam Goldstein, was burned on an arm and a portion of his scalp, according to a statement from the musicians' families released by the hospital. Mullins declined to discuss specific recovery times for the men, but said such injuries can take a year to fully heal.

Both men are still in critical but stable condition, he said.

The Learjet crashed late Friday night shortly after taking off from an airport in Columbia, where the men had just performed a concert for thousands of college students. The plane's two-person crew and a pair of the musicians' staff members — also their close friends — were killed.

As the plane was departing, air traffic controllers reported seeing sparks, officials said. The plane hurtled off the end of a runway and came to rest a quarter-mile away on an embankment across a five-lane highway, engulfed in flames.

One witness said he was driving when a fireball streaked across the highway about 600 feet ahead of him. William Owens said he approached to see the two survivors frantically trying to remove their burning clothes.

"I noticed two guys who were on fire and it looked like a dance: They didn't know what to do," said Owens, a 60-year-old delivery van driver.

Goldstein had stripped off his own shirt and was helping Barker strip naked, said Owens, who was able to identify the men Saturday night because of news reports that showed Barker's extensive tattoos.

Owens said Goldstein told him four other people were on board the jet, but the flames were too intense to get close.

"'Oh my God' was all they were saying," Owens said of Barker and Goldstein. "They stood there and it's like — didn't know what to do. None of us did."

Several fans visited the hospital over the weekend. One carried a sign that read: "Get Well Travis."

"I was just shocked when I first heard it and I knew that I had to do something," said Ryan Meadows, a 19-year-old college student from Augusta.

Two other passengers — Chris Baker, 29, of Studio City, Calif., and Charles Still, 25, of Los Angeles — died, as did pilot Sarah Lemmon, 31, of Anaheim Hills, Calif., and co-pilot James Bland, 52, of Carlsbad, Calif., according to the county coroner. Baker was an assistant to Barker and Still was a security guard for the musician.

"The families wish to thank fans from all over the world for their prayers and concern. Deepest sympathy is expressed to the loved ones of those who perished in the crash," said the statement from the musicians' families.

The plane was headed for Van Nuys, Calif. It is owned by Global Exec Aviation, a California-based charter company, and was certified to operate last year, said National Transportation Safety Board member Debbie Hersman.

A longtime friend of the co-pilot said Bland flew anti-smuggling missions 20 years for the U.S. Customs Service and flew missions for the Santa Ana Police Department in California and U.S. Border Patrol.

"He was such an experienced pilot, it had to be something beyond their control," said Tim Ferrill, a Huntington Beach, Calif., pilot. "He was an absolutely meticulous pilot, very thorough and not a risk-taker at all."

Barker and Goldstein had performed together under the name TRVSDJ-AM at a free concert in Columbia on Friday night. The show, which included performances by former Jane's Addiction singer Perry Farrell and singer Gavin DeGraw, drew about 10,000 people to a neighborhood near the University of South Carolina.

Barker, 32, was one of the more colorful members of the multiplatinum-selling punk rock band Blink-182, whose biggest album was 1999's CD "Enema of the State" and sold more than 5 million copies in the United States alone.

After Blink-182 disbanded in 2005, Barker went on to form the rock band (+44) — pronounced "plus forty-four." He also starred in the MTV reality series "Meet the Barkers" with his then-wife, former Miss USA Shanna Moakler. The show documented the former couple's lavish wedding and home life. Their later split, reconciliation and subsequent breakup made them tabloid favorites.

Goldstein, 35, is a popular DJ for hire who at one time was engaged to Nicole Richie and dated singer/actress Mandy Moore. While he became a gossip favorite for his romances, he draws respect from music aficionados for his DJ skills.

Barker and Goldstein performed as part of the house band at the MTV Video Music Awards earlier this month.

They both survived the crash and everybody else died.

And they're expected to fully recover.

This is gonna be one hell of a story next time they're rolling a blunt

:smh: I don't even know what to say. They are some extremely lucky dudes to survive a plane crash like that. I wish them a speedy recovery.

Never in my life seen a plane look like that and people actually survived. I can't wait to hear these cats give an interview. Just some amazing shit. How the fuck they even get out of the plane? That shit looked just as bad or hell probably worse than Aaliyah's plane. I seriously hope this isn't a fuck up like too many baggages on a plane. Simple fuckin' mistakes like that is so sad to hear. Amazing that 4 out of the 6 people on the plane died and the two who lived were the high profile ones. Just amazing. Makes you appreciate life so much more.

C/S

I was viewing the pics on yahoo and couldn't believe that out of 6 ppl only 2 survive and they are the most high profile ones. They cheated death for real! They should thank the man upstairs everyday!

On another note, they both should star in Final Destination 4. Makes it more real with what they both went through.

Damn, them dudes were standing after that?!?!? And helping each other?!!?!? Amazing. A lot of recovery and a lot of counseling is in the future of these two blessed mofo;s. Get ready for a lot of survivor guilt.

Whenever they fly again, any slight movement on a plane will fuck their mind and head up:smh:

I consider it a blessing to be able to walk, talk and live. The other passengers were not cursed they just weren't blessed to see another day. R.I.P.

No, the dead ones just weren't LUCKY enough to be seated in the part of the plane that happened to break off and/or that produced a hole for the two to tumble out of. Like getting ejected out of a car before it finishes crashing and burning up. Dumb luck.

Considering that I don't believe in lucc, I was simply answerin the Man's question.....

Considering that I don't believe in lucc, I was simply answerin the Man's question.....

That was the reason for my question, if people had been saying they were "lucky" then i could see the position of sometimes people are lucky and sometimes they aren't, but when 4 people get killed and 2 survive and people are saying those survivors were "blessed" i have to wonder what the 4 that didn't make it were

glad 2 hear they doin good. they @ a hospital in my city. its all over the news.

and dont nobody b askin me 2 slip trav ur demo neither. :hmm:

RIP to those who didn't make it and.......

WOW to those two who did.....

This the type of shit that makes you either be cautious and appreciate life or turn to reckless abandon.....

"Chris Baker, Who Died In Travis Barker/ DJ AM Crash, Remembered By Game, Paul Wall, His Family

'Lil Chris was like a brother to me,' Game says of Barker's late personal assistant.

By: James Montgomery

To those who knew him, Chris Baker was much more than just Travis Barker's personal assistant. He was a kind, good-natured friend, a practical joker, a proud father, a loving son and an avowed gearhead who never could quite believe that his love of cars had led him to a life of fame and fortune.

Baker - affectionately known as "Lil Chris" by friends and family - was killed in Friday's jet crash in Columbia, South Carolina, along with three others, including Barker's security guard, Charles "Che" Still. And though he may be gone, those whose lives he touched - a diverse group of artists and friends, telling of a man who was loved by so many - are determined to make sure his memory lives on.

"I still can't believe he is gone. He was a person that was always smiling, always happy and always cracking jokes. He was not just Travis' best friend - he was everybody's best friend," Lil Jon said in a statement to MTV News. "He was one of the coolest, nicest and caring people I knew. He was always trying to make sure everybody was OK. It's a tragedy when you lose people like this. All I keep thinking about is his son. He looks just like his father and already is a star."

"Lil Chris was like a brother to me - I loved him like a brother and he loved me like one. His memory is forever implanted into my heart. There will not be a day I live where I don't think of my brother," the Game told MTV News. "Travis, I love you too, homie. See you soon. Your pain is my pain."

Those sentiments were echoed by rock acts like Fall Out Boy and Cobra Starship, who got to know Baker during the 2007 Honda Civic Tour, when both bands toured with Travis Barker's Plus-44.

"Chris was a rad guy. He always had a way to get us to smile on tour, no matter what situation we were in, and he was truly beloved," Fall Out Boy told MTV News in a statement this weekend, just hours after the jet crash.

"Chris was an awesome dude, and I'm shocked and saddened this happened," Cobra's Gabe Saporta added. "I just don't know what else to say beyond that."

But the tributes didn't end there. Artists like Paul Wall and Too Short also reached out to MTV News, remembering Baker as "the most generous and kindhearted person ever" and a guy who "always looked out for everybody," loved to crack jokes and always wore a smile on his face.

In an interview with The Sacramento Bee, Baker's parents recalled a boy who grew up obsessed with fixing classic cars. He and his stepfather, Robert Warn, worked together on a 1953 Chevrolet, and as a teen, Baker participated in the Roseville (California)
Police Athletic League's car program. After moving to Los Angeles to start an auto-detailing business, his obsession took him in an altogether different direction, thanks to a chance meeting with Barker at a gas station.

"Chris told Travis that he had a really nice car but he needed to hire him to take care of it," Warn told The Bee.

The two began a fast friendship soon after, and Baker spent a year touring with the drummer before being hired on as his personal assistant.
And though he had suddenly - and rather unexpectedly - entered into a globe-trotting lifestyle, Baker always remained humble and a bit amazed by his fortune.

"Chris got to see the world with Travis," Baker's mother, Linda Warn, told the newspaper. "He went to Japan, Australia, almost all of Europe and every state in the continental U.S., I think. ... Once, he called us at 3 a.m. just to tell us he was standing in front of the 'Mona Lisa.' "

Baker was just 29 years old and is survived by his wife, Jessie, and a toddler son, Sebastian.
On Monday, Barker's clothing company, Famous Stars and Straps, announced the establishment of a pair of memorial funds in Baker's and Still's names, with donations going to their respective families.

"It is with the utmost sympathy and regret that the Famous family confirms the tragic loss of two of its most beloved members," a statement from the company read in part. "With heavy hearts we offer our deepest condolences to their family and friends. They will always remain in our thoughts and prayers."

"Shanna Moakler Issues Statement On Travis Barker/ DJ Am Plane Crash
Barker's ex-wife flew to Georgia Saturday to be with him.

By Jocelyn Vena

Shanna Moakler, the ex-wife of Travis Barker and the mother of their 4-year-old son, Landon, and 2-year-old daughter, Alabama, issued a statement on Monday (September 21) regarding the plane crash in which four people were killed and Barker and DJ AM were critically injured on Friday night. Moakler left for Georgia on Saturday to be with Barker in the hospital.

"There are not enough words to express how thankful we are for the outpouring of love and support we have received during this very difficult time," the statement reads, according to UsMagazine.com. "We can only ask for prayers as we heal and mourn the loss of our dear friends who we considered part of our family. Our lives will be changed forever."

Moakler was referring to deaths of the four other passengers, including Barker's assistant Chris "Little Chris" Baker and his security guard, Charles Still, 25. Barker and DJ AM (real name: Adam Goldstein) are expected to recover fully.

Barker and Moakler starred in the MTV reality series "Meet the Barkers," which chronicled their marriage. Although the pair divorced in 2004, UsMagazine.com reports that they are back together.

According to media reports, DJ AM's ex-girlfriend Mandy Moore visited him and Jermaine Dupri visited Barker in the days since the accident. Also, several of the pair's friends and colleagues have issued statements or wished them love and support.

A statement from the families of both artists thanks fans and friends for their support. "The families wish to thank fans from all over the world for their prayers and concern," the statement says. "Deepest sympathy is expressed to the loved ones of those who perished in the crash."
