Be careful going over the border, Canadian customs jacked my shit, forced me to give them passwords to laptop and iPad. They threaten to seize my laptop if i didnt and get some computer tech to crack it open. They will lie, say your were nervous acting to justify going through.
Felt like I was going to Iran. I guess Al Qaeda tried to setup shop in their country, people going to training camps in Pakistan.
They went through all my porn and released some contents out publicly. Definitely use truecrypt. Give them the password to bullshit files, not the hidden or don't take it over the border, you can access the Internet at library.

I've had a similar experience, I was arrested for having a bat in my trunk and not declaring it as a weapon.

also where can I find cheap hotels with wifi near pearson airport? and how far is that from downtown since i'm gonna be a tourist for a bit and is there public transit or only use cabs?
Bump for more info. Do you need a passport to enter Canada? Or any extra kinds of identification? And are these good deals for Caribana: http://www.caribanatoronto.com/hotelpackages

You need a passport or you can get the enhanced drivers license.. either one will be sufficient. If you are booking your hotel early like within the next few weeks...then you can get away with cheaper rates on rooms downtown and there are plenty of other events going on from the ones they have listed that you can get tickets online from... other than that it is a decent package
you need a passport since I think 2008 or so.

How is it getting around Toronto? Is it like a NY/Chicago where I won't be needing a car, or is it more like LA/Houston?
(I'll be up there for Caribana, staying downtown)
If you are staying downtown for Caribana then you can def get away without having a car the subway systems is pretty good along with the street cars so you can def get around downtown and to the lakeshore for the parade and nightclubs etc. What hotel/area you staying by?
One King West....Financial district; corner of King St and Yonge St.
Seemed like a pretty central location, is this true?
Question about clubbing Caribana weekend: Will I have any problems getting paying at the door?
Looking at the events on the various websites, most parties are tryna get you to purchase tix online warning of sellouts. Are sellouts really a problem? I'm leery of advanced ticket purchasing as I can't be sure where I'll want to go and I don't know who I'd be giving my money to.
Thanks a lot for the responses.
I'm thinking of doing this one:
http://www.caribanatoronto.com/event/vippass
It's $85 for four events, and they claim VIP line bypass for three of the events...y'all know anything about these? Good idea? Or set up for frustration? (I've seen promoters in other situations completely fuck up these kind of deals and you have no real recourse if they do, but then I've seen it work flawlessly)
One of the main reasons I'm considering this is cuz I may choose to skip one of these events and go to a "cool lil club" as y'all mentioned on at least one night....this pass would just be a way to hedge my bets. I'll want to try one of these mega parties, but they kinda seem like the same party every night, so I'd bet I'd wanna switch it up.
$85 to qualm my indecisiveness is worth it to me....if it works as advertised. An experiences with these? Or, have they gained a good/bad rep?
