just thought this was interesting to look at...my teams #1
http://www.draftseason.com/top-ten-worst-draft-classes-of-the-decade/
10. 2001 Dallas Cowboys
LOWLIGHTS:
Round 2. Quincy Carter QB, Georgia - Carter became more famous for his off the field problems than anything he ever accomplished on the field.
Round 3. Willie Blade DT, Mississippi St. - 18 career tackles with one sack in 5 years in the league.
Round 4. Markus Steele LB, USC - Out of the league after 3 seasons.
Round 6. Dalreroy Stewart DT, Southern Miss – 25 tackles in 4 seasons.
Round 7. Colston Weatherington DE, Central Mizzou St. - 1 career tackle.
Round 7. John Nix DT, Southern Miss - 18 tackles in 4 seasons
Round 7. Char-ron Dorsey OT, FSU - 2 career starts for the Boys, out of league in 3 years
SAVING GRACES: Tony Dixon CB, Alabama - Gave the team a few decent years, had 6 career sacks, and 109 tackles, not great but not a total bust either. Matt Lehr C, Va. Tech - Had a few good years with the Cowboys before evolving into a journeyman offensive lineman. Still in the league.
CONCLUSION: Quincy Carter turned into a debacle with his off the field drug issues, and they really didn’t get much of anything out of this class, but some part time players and backups.
9. 2001 Oakland Raiders
LOWLIGHTS:
Round 1: Derrick Gibson DB, FSU - There have been bigger busts than Gibson, as he had a few good seasons with the team, but his career stats (194 tackles, 3 picks, 2 sacks) are a let down for the 28th overall pick.
Round 2: Marques Tuiasosopo QB, Washington – Career backup with 555 passing yds.
Round 3: DeLawrence Grant DE, Oregon St. – A decent rotation player but nothing more.
Round 5: Raymond Perryman DB, Northern Arizona – 7 career tackles
.Round 7: Derek Combs DB, Ohio St. – Has as many NFL career tackles as me – 0
Round 7: Ken-Yon Rambo WR, Ohio St. Cool name, but only had 239 career receiving yds
SAVING GRACE: Chris Cooper DT, Nebraska-Omaha - Cooper turned into a nice little 6th round find as a situational player who was in the league for 8 years with 132 career tackles and 8.5 sacks.
CONCLUSION: There have been worse drafts than this one, but the Raiders only landed a few backup players and their first round pick only gave them two decent seasons.
8. 2007 Miami Dolphins
LOWLIGHTS:
Round 1. Ted Ginn Jr. WR, Ohio St. – An excellent returner but bad receiver. Not the type of player you use the 9th overall pick on.
Round 2. John Beck QB, BYU – Cam Cameron’s hand picked project, this old boy was let go when Cameron was fired. Now thrid string with the Ravens.
Round 3. Lorenzo Booker RB, FSU – I’m a fan of LoBo but he just hasn’t produced in his two years in the league and is currently buried on the Eagles depth chart.
Round 4. Paul Soliali DT, Utah – Soliali was starting to come on a bit this year but 31 tackles in three years puts a bust label on his head.
Round 6. Reagan Mauia FB, Hawaii – 5 career rushing yds, out of the league in two years.
Round 6. Drew Mormino C, Central Michigan – Never played a snap, out of the league.
Round 6. Kelvin Smith LB, Syracuse – 1 tackle with the Phins, now backup for the Panthers.
Round 7. Abraham Wright LB, Colorado – 0 career tackles, out of the league
SAVING GRACES: Samson Satele C, Hawaii – Had a nice rookie year, play fell off a bit in his second year was then traded to Raiders.
Brandon Fields P, Michigan St. – He is currently the starting punter for the Dolphins and a pretty good one at that.
CONCLUSION: The Dolphins had 10 picks in the 2007 Draft. Two years later all they have to show for it is a kick returner, a backup defensive tackle, and a punter. Not Good.
7. 2000 Dallas Cowboys
LOWLIGHTS :
Round 2. Dwayne Goodrich DB, Tennessee - Had 8 career tackles
Round 4. Kareem Larrimore CB, W. Texas A&M – Also had 8 career tackles
Round 5. Michael Wiley RB, Ohio St. – 503 Rushing yds and 1 TD, in 3 seasons with the team
Round 7. Orantes Grant LB, Georgia – 16 career tackles with the Cowboys
SAVING GRACE: Mario Edwards CB, Florida St. – By no means a great player, but a solid contributor who amassed 170 tackles and 4 picks.
OVERALL: The Cowboys didn’t get much out of this draft, but a couple of backups and busts. They would be higher on this list but since they didn’t have a first round pick to blow they are saved.
6. 2005 Houston Texans
LOWLIGHTS:
Round 1. Travis Johnson DT, FSU: Mediocre player who never lived up to first round billing. Now on Chargers.
Round 3. Vernand Morency RB, Oklahoma St.: Vernand never panned out as a runner for the Texans, and is now out of the league.
Round 4. Jerome Mathis WR, Hampton: Was a good kick returner but only had 6 career catches.
Round 5. Drew Hodgdon C, ASU: 8 career starts for the Texans, no longer in the NFL
Round 7. Kenneth Pettway LB, Grambling St.: Never had a tackle for the Texans, only made a handful for the Jaguars.
SAVING GRACE: CC Brown S, Louisiana Lafayette: Had 3 nice seasons with the Texans and had 69 tackles for the Giants this year.
CONCLUSION: Travis Johnson was a big time bust, whose attitude and motivation was questioned by his coach. CC Brown was a nice player but the Texans missed on the majority of this draft.
5. 2000 Buffalo Bills
LOWLIGHTS:
Round 1. Erik Flowers DE, ASU: Huge bust who had 37 career tackles and 5 sacks in 6 seasons
Round 2. Travares Tillman FS, Ga. Tech: Had 31 tackles for the Bills before jumping around the league for awhile, backup player
Round 3. Corey Moore OLB, Va. Tech: 1 career sack; 2 years in the league
Round 4. Avion Black WR, Tenn. St.: 14 career receptions out of the league, out after 3 miserable years
Round 6. Leif Larsen DT, UTEP: 17 tackles in 3 seasons
Round 7. Drew Haddad WR, Buffalo: Had 1 career catch, but damn was it a doozy.
SAVING GRACES: Sammy Morris RB, Texas Tech: Turned into a pretty good backup running back who has played well when called upon.
DaShon Polk LB, Arizona: Turned into a decent player with 223 career tackles and 4.5 sacks
CONCLUSION: You know your draft is bad when your best player is a backup running back.
4. 2006 Miami Dolphins
LOWLIGHTS:
Round 1. Jason Allen S, Tennessee: Hasn’t lived up to his first round billing and seems to be getting worse.
Round 3. Derek Hagan WR, ASU: Hagan was plagued by drops and never blossomed into the receiver the Phins were hoping for.
Round 4. Joe Toledo T, Washington: Toledo has never played a game, and is now on the Chargers.
Round 7. Fred Evans DT, Texas St.: Had 2 tackles with the Dolphins now a backup for the Vikings.
Round 7. Rodrique Wright DT, Texas: Had a decent 2007 season but has done nothing since.
Round 7. Devin Aromashadu: It’s taken awhile but Aromashadu is now starting to come to life with the Bears.
CONCLUSION: This draft is pretty much a nightmare through and through. The only saving grace would be if Aromashadu continues his hot play in 2010 but since he is a member of the Bears that doesn’t help the Dolphins one bit.
3. 2006 St. Louis Rams
LOWLIGHTS:
Round 1. Tye Hill CB, Clemson – Play tailed off after a good rookie year, now with the Falcons.
Round 2. Joe Klopfenstein TE, Colorado – 37 receptions in 3 years in St. Louis, now with the Bills.
Round 3. Claude Wroten DT, LSU – 24 career tackles in two seasons, out of the league.
Round 3. Jon Alston LB, Stanford – 1 year and 1 tackle with the Rams, now on Raiders.
Round 3. Dominique Byrd TE, USC – 6 receptions with the Rams now on Cardinals.
Round 5. Marques Hagans WR, Virginia – 8 receptions in two seasons with the team.
Round 7. Tim McGarigle LB, Northwestern – 6 tackles in a miserable two seasons.
Round 7. Tony Palmer G, Mizzou – Never played a single snap for the Rams.
SAVING GRACES: Victor Adeyanju DE, Indiana – Has 117 tackles and 3 sacks, in his 4 seasons with the team. Not bad for a fourth round pick. Mark Setterstrom G, Minnesota – The Rams got a decent backup player with this 7th round pick and he’s still with the team, which is very rare for this class.
CONCLUSION: This terrible class had a lot to do with the Rams hiring an all new coaching staff in 2009.
2. 2005 Detroit Lions
LOWLIGHTS:
Round 1. Mike Williams WR, USC – Came in overweight after being out of football for a year, had 37 career receptions in his time in Detroit. One of the all time biggest busts.
Round 2. Shaun Cody DT, USC – A backup defensive tackle has not played like a second round draft pick. Now with Houston.
Round 3. Stanley Wilson CB, Stanford – Played 3 seasons and racked up 86 total tackles. Ish.
Round 5. Dan Orlovsky QB, UCONN – Is a backup for Houston, most famous for running out of the end zone during a passing play and causing a safety.
Round 6. Bill Swancutt DE, Oregon St. - Had a good Senior Bowl, but couldn’t translate his game to the NFL and was out of the league in a blink of an eye.
Round 6. Jonathan Goddard LB, Marshall – 1 career tackle.
CONCLUSION: It’s because of drafts like this that the Lions are always terrible and Matt Millen is now a commentator.
1. 2005 Minnesota Vikings
Round 1. Troy Williamson WR, South Carolina – The Vikings traded Randy Moss to the Raiders for the 7th overall pick which they used on a WR who couldn’t catch the ball. What made this pick even worse was that guys like DeMarcus Ware and Shawne Merriman were available.
Round 1. Erasmus James DE, Wisconsin – Had 4 sacks his rookie year and then it all went to crap, and he is now out of the the league all together.
Round 2. Marcus Johnson OT, Ole Miss - He started 18 games for the Vikings but didn’t play well in any of them. Now is a proud member of the Bucs.
Round 3. Dustin Fox CB, Ohio St. – Hurt his first training camp, cut his second one.
Round 4. Ciatrick Fason RB, Florida – 161 Rushing yds in two years, at least he never was caught with the whizzinator.
Round 6. CJ Mosely DT, Mizzou - The best pick of this draft was a decent fill in at DT, but was then traded for Brooks Bollinger.
Round 7. Adrian Ward CB, UTEP – Cut in training camp, hasn’t been seen since.
CONCLUSION: After looking at this class it’s easy to see why it’s the worst. They traded Randy Moss for a fast receiver who couldn’t catch, two picks never saw a snap with the team, and the rest just plain sucked. Draft
