Even if they have a 360?

Especially with a 360 deal. Because the label is still providing the advance money for the artist to get the music made, the label also takes care of the marketing, promotion and the touring. Therefore, the company gets a slice of everything, the record sales, the tour money, your merchandise, they get a cut of all that shit.

So when you got a 360 deal, you gotta sell good enough to pay your label back that money and probably then some. So it's important that you're hot or at least got a hot single. If you don't, the label will push your album back until you do so.

Record deals are really for artists who are broke, but are hot and upcoming and could use the money and promotion from a major label.

If you're hot enough, you can tell the label "I'm only going to give ya'll 1-2 albums" and then after you do those, and if you sell well on those, and then your debt to the label is done.

After that, you would've built your fan base up, built your discography up, you can go independent, you can get your own shows and pay to get your music made yourself and get your paper through touring.
