RALEIGH, N.C. -- John Wall, the country's top unsigned high school recruit in basketball, has been charged with misdemeanor breaking and entering after police found him walking out of a

John Wall is ranked fifth in the ESPNU 100's Class of 2009.

Wall, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound point guard ranked fifth in the ESPNU 100's Class of 2009, was cited in connection with an April 27 break-in of a Raleigh residence, the police said. Wall, a point guard at Raleigh Word of God, was voted The Associated Press men's prep basketball player of the year for North Carolina in March.

Police said an officer detained Wall, 18, after observing him leaving out the back of the home.

Two minors were also detained and charged in connection with the break-in.

Police said there was no forced entry and nothing to indicate anything was missing from the residence.

Wall has nine teams on his list of potential schools -- Florida, Baylor, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Memphis, Miami, North Carolina and NC State.

Frank Jackson, an assistant district attorney in Wake County, which includes Raleigh, told The Associated Press that a person convicted of such an offense could face up to 120 days in jail. But he said a first-time offender would likely have to perform community service.

A call to Wall's home in Raleigh found the phone was disconnected. His mother didn't have a listed phone number, and message to the school's athletic director wasn't immediately returned.

I'm surprised no one is talking about this. How will it affect his recruiting and do you think any of the colleges pull out of the race? He already has problems with school and now this.

Need more info on the situation but if I'm a coach I'd look at the entire life cycle of this Kid before passing judgement. Not to excuse the stupidity of this charge but if you've seen this Kid play you would understand why most coaches will say fuck it and sign him, even though he is a definite one and done player. He is definitely a phenom...just bad judgement on this one:smh:

Son is nice, yo he can't be that stupid. No excuses still. He'll learn from this hopefully.

Not sure if ya'll know but the reason he couldn't play in the McDonald's game is because he was a 5th year player. So there was some sort of sign of trouble in his past.

Coaches wont give him a shot. Just like T.O. there are always good players coming out. Remember Lenny Cooke? Baddest kid coming out predicted to go number one his entire junior high and high school until he hit his senior year and flunked out. Now he at food lion bagging groceries!

If anybody knows about Word of God prep school basketball (here in Raleigh, NC) almost the entire team is made up of 5th year seniors in high school. I can understand being a 5th year senior in college, but HIGH SCHOOL!!! that means the squad is loaded with 18,19 and 20 year olds. When you that old you should be dominating ball over 16,17 and 18 year olds.

North Carolina and Duke might jump out of the running.I doubt if this will affect the rest. Ultimately it's about wins for these coaches and money for the schools. Wall's talent can provide both so the schools currently on his list will still be happy to get him. If anything this might help Kentucky because if someone else drops out you can be sure that Coach Calipari will take him.

I agree, but before that he has to pass the SAT. That's the reason why it's taking so long for him to "decide". He's waiting to see if the NBA allows him in, he is looking for the loophole to get past the one year after his grad class to play in the league. He reclassified to a 5th year senior so it moved his class back one year, even if he is 19!

You are so right on Lenny Cooke. Everyone was saying he was just behind LeBron in the rankings and even went one-on-one with The King. School really fucked up him and he found himself in lower leagues until he just couldn't take it no more. I honestly can't feel bad for these guys because they should know that shit won't be handed to you. Got to take it if you want it and work hard for it.

Wall also was declined entry into the draft, so he better hope some college gives him a shot or he will be like Renardo Sidney who had to choose Mississippi State over USC and UCLA.

I heard alot of bad things about this kid, but to his defense he another guy and a female was in an abandon house. The police got there and found out that the house was already open (no breaking and entering) and nothing was damage or stolen. The real estate agent was pressing the issue and the police wrote all of them tickets.

The deadline to declare has passed so it's too late for that. Somebody on ESPN was explaining the situation about his draft eligibility and it seemed like he would have a case but the NBA would almost certainly challenge it so it might have been better for him to go to school.

 Do y'all ninjas know anything about basketball? You never heard of prep schools? They are filled with "5th year seniors"...dudes go there for various reasons, to either develop their game more so they can get signed by a certain tier college, get their grades up or get their SAT scores together while making an impact on the school and padding their stats. Most coaches that haven't made a final decision on certain players check them out after they've transferred to a prep school for a year to see if they've made any positive improvement.

Shit, just about every prep school you hear about is loaded with these cats. It's very rare to find a true college freshmen comin' out of these schools. Most cats I balled with were comin' in college already around 20 and 21 yrs old. Shit, not to mention dudes transferring from JuCo...that's another story.

Wall reminds me of a younger and leaner version of Wade. He's talented, but just doesn't have the focus or the discipline. He needs to get his shit together, but when or if he does, then he's a 1st round draft pick for sure. Also, once he gets a little size on him as far as weight and strength, do will be a terror.

he'll probabbly try to sign on with a team overseas play a season or two and then apply for the NBA Draft.

if i was him id just go down to Sipp state, with ol buddy, but this nigga fuckin up tryin to get him some tail. He need someone to get in his ass and tell him NIGGA YOUR GONNA BLOW IT !!!!! if you don't get your shit together.

He had some shit happen when he was younger, Father died young and shit. Skill wise though, fuck if I wouldn't still take him...A lot of mutherfuckers been accused of worse shit than this and are still given a chance (research the Miami Hurricanes Football team any year from 1998-2007, full of fuck ups and criminals, most of who ended up first or second round NFL pics). I for damn sure would give this Dude a scholarship, mad skills, he's gonna be one and done anyway, unless there was some bullshit with him that would cause a recruiting violation and sanctions and shit he would be my starting PG next year...Mad difference maker.

Another thing, Lenny Cooke is a totally different story...yeah he was a beast and ended up fucking up, but it wasn't the streets that fucked him up initially...Nicca had a real bad case of Lebron-itis!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure that having a fifth year makes you a problem kid. In the Philadelphia Area we have seen a phenomenon where kids are leaving what used to be the strongest bball league, the Philadelphia Public League and are going to private schools where they "reclassify" and get a fifth year. They do this for the better education. Players like Hakim Warrick and Mustafa Shakur come to mind. So we have lots of fifth year players who are not problem kids

It's because he transferred schools. He's been in three different high schools, it's not because he failed.

I just read about him in Slam yesterday. They said that he got cut before because he has a lack of focus on the game. He should have had better judgement though. There is always europe. someone is going to start a new pro league to stand in for college watch.

Just a little correction, He was at Enloe here in Raleigh right before he transferred to Word of God and was always getting in trouble in class. He did what they called reclassifying which is only another technical term for failing the 11th grade. It's one thing to reclassify for the basketball stats and to get seen more by colleges but he reclassified because he didn't have enough passing credits to graduate.

Him being a 5th year player has NOTHING to do with a troubled past
Hes a 5th year player because he got cut from his freshman year at Broughton high school then transferred and reclassified himself
