RealTalkNY takes a look at Hip Hop’s biggest break ups. It seems all good things come to an end, and relationships are put the test when success is achieved. So this trend of course is prominent in the world of Hip Hop. Hopefully some of the people listed can come to a reconciliation and get back to making great music.

*Feel free to weigh-in with some notable breakups.

5.)[FLASH]http://www.youtube.com/watch/v/vVSOyM_YsLQ[/FLASH]

Jay-Z and Dame Dash: Death of a dynasty. Even after three years, I’m still in shock over this one.
RealTalkNY: Damn these two built a dynasty and made millions together. Who would of seen this coming, they was like Batman and Robin. But as time goes on egos collide and people change.

4.)[FLASH]http://www.youtube.com/watch/v/t8Yzzn5uBzU[/FLASH]

Pete Rock & CL Smooth: One of the first producer/emcee combo groups of its time. Creative differences in the studio ultimately contributed to the breakup.
RealTalkNY: They could of made some classic hits if they could of stayed together.

3.)[FLASH]http://www.youtube.com/watch/v/ighu4gGlaUE[/FLASH]

Fugees: The group failed to reform after the success of Lauryn’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. And now in 2007, it looks like the critically acclaimed group might never get back together.
RealTalkNY: Success tore this group apart. Lauryn Hill lost it after her debut album and the group never recovered. To this day they still can’t get it together.

2.)[FLASH]http://www.youtube.com/watch/v/nkPb4s0-QcI[/FLASH]

NWA: Group turmoil and money mishandling at Ruthless Records led to the demise of the controversial group.
RealTalkNY: Too many egos in one group, it was just a matter of time until they hated each other.

A Tribe Called Quest: A Tribe Called Quest = Real Hip-Hop. After performing on this years VH1 Hip-Hop Honors, we’re left to wonder what would’ve been if these creative minds would have stayed together.

Even though they eventually got back together, Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith of EPMD fell out hard back in the day

I dont think dame and jay were ever a group. Homeboys yea.

Replace that with the Firm, Dipset, NWA, HotBoyz ect.

yeah remove jay/dame

replace with epmd,

also leaders of the new school, people had high hopes for charlile brown

peace
Tribe sounded like they still have it but it was said Jarobi got kicked out for smoking too much trees and Phife just looked somewhat sickly even though he was "On Point"; lil cuz Consrquence is definitely ready and was on the last Tribe album;
Seen Eric & Parrish on stage in the summer and they were killing that shit with another "Business" album coming - they even gave it up for JMJ since they got Scratch through him

Honorable Mentions:
DPG needs to get it cracking again too
5FT being locked aint helping BlackMoon
The "GOODies"
Still waitng on the next HeltahSkeltah album even though Sparksy & Dutch have rejoined forces; am looking forward to the SMif&Wesson album

The Rockafella CLIQUE needs to be reactivated with JazO and Sauce$ but doubt it since j's ego doesnt need it; Nas needs to stop bullshitting and let AZ & Lakey bless his tracks;

Wouldnt mind hearing the Outsidaz clique with m&m, Digga & that whole Bricks clique, THE WHOLE DEF SQUAD, the Original Terror squad especially Prospect and Armegheddon, the Original HotBoys minus wayne (or just allowed on hooks), the original FlipMode and even SugaFree & Quik kill a track once more
(maybe even the best of DipSet with Gist, HellRell, MaxB and add on Rell with intro by Jomo)
FUCK who's Hot, they're papered up already, force some skills upon the 'new' listeneres

But it is what it is

peace

The Hot Boys was a hell of a "break-up" to me... It just seemed like a real personal break up, kind of like a family dispute... But the "rap game" these days is crazy, this shit is like WWE / WCW...

Should be #1!!!

Damn! Beat me to Goodie Mob! Hell while we on it what about Outkast!!! :roflmao:

On the real...Not on the "group" radar so to speak but what about Puffy's Hitmen or Trackmasters?

The only one that kind of hit home to me was The Geto Boys!!!

People forget it was about 10 years (just guessing) between FULL albums from all three members.

EPMD should be there.

You can make a case for 3rd Bass and Main Source ('Main Source 4 eva y'all' )

Ruthless Records was a dynasty..I was pissed when they fell apart.
Death Row..same as above..
Naughty By Nature..
Brand Nubian..
Pharcyde..
EPMD..
3rd Bass..

But my #1 is Main Source..What could have been..

EDIT: I know that they won't perform without Jay..but Run and DMC don't speak to each other..that REALLY hurts.

Suprised no one mentioned Bone Thugs yet. Bizzy and his drug/psych problems really fucked things up.

And can someone explain what happened with Kay Gee and Treah?????

Hometeam, which MainSource, 1 or 2?("FUCK Them 2 DJs" off of that Tribe album) lol; my old homegirl's in that 2nd video

DeathRow signed a kat Nas always used to shout of for street cred but aint do shit for him when he needed, Lakey the Kid - but both his past and the label's are so riddled with controversy and shit, he says he cant get a fair look @ getting his shit heard which is too hard for the snap along, pop and fad young crowd;this kat's talking that GeorgeJackson type revolution shit with real street roots and not that fake shit

Ruthless is is all TAMEKA now ain't it - wasn't Bizzy spouting and pouting about some shit she did, not allowing them some shit?

BrandNubians are back together - someone posted the album here b4 it dropped plus heard em on the radio talking with MsJones on their past issues and current status - they STILL have it and was refreshing to hear em

Pharcyde and them high explosives/pills/powders and whatever are still on tour together aint they?

PeteNice from 3rd base is selling baseball cards and paraphernalia last I heard; where the fuck is RichieRich? Is he still judging DMCs?

Stet straight had the mid 80s on Lock; Didn't MC Delight or Fruitkwan pass or some shit or was that a rumor? DaddyO, PrincePaul are still doing them; BobbySimmons is like a local comedian who had a long running local access cable video show in like 2002- like 04/05 that u could catch in Queens and BK; shit used to be funny as fuck and on all day and night with diff hosts

............And can someone explain what happened with Kay Gee and Treach?????
Wasnt there, but apparently shit came to a head when Gee started putting his time into his R&B label that fed him intot he new millenium with all that CoffeeBrown, Next & Jaheim success; so the two longtime friends took it to the park with the hands like men and some say Gee came off on top

The motherfucking GetFreshCrew - After like 2,3 songs, Doug, Rick, ChillWill and BarryB never did a joint together; that joint NOTHING, Doug tries to sound like RickyD; add to them , the imaginary Kangol Crew from 'Fame' school days which supposebly had Dana Dane and SlickRick together

peace

Damn BBORN you a regualr hip-hop encyclopedia, that's a lot of knowledge in there. Just to add on a bit, I recall hearing Serch say that Pete Nice was actually playing a big role in running the Baseball Hall Of Fame.

The Hot Boys was a hell of a "break-up" to me... It just seemed like a real personal break up, kind of like a family dispute... But the "rap game" these days is crazy, this shit is like WWE / WCW...

i have to agree.....they had at least 2 more hot albums in them had they stuck it out...

Peace Allah..

Fruitkwan died a few years back. His last work was the Gravediggaz second album.

I remember when Treach was on Hot 97 talking about," KayGee meet me at such and such place" and we can settle this..Then two months later they were on Wendy Williams show and said everything was peace. I didn't know Kay knuckled Treach down..lol
