Just had this discussion with someone, and figured I'd bring it to BGOL.

Personally, and I know people may disagree with me because the name isn't a big one - but when he was using it to it's capability, I've never seen anyone move faster than Damon Stoudamire on the court. Seriously. That shit didn't even seem human.

THEN I got a chance to see him at a Hornets game back in the late 90s and it seemed even less human.

That's a tough call because it's hard to measure who's faster than who. Right now the 2 guards that come to my mind currently in the NBA are Bledsoe and Ty Lawson. I'd give the edge to Lawson though, SHEESH! Mugsy could push the rock in the blink as well. Rod Strickland as well. Tough to say who's the fast though.

As dude said it's tough to answer that. Especially for the history of the game.

I can only mention the fastest I seen since I started watching

To clarify, there is a big difference between quick and fast. LeBron is fast but not necessarily quick. AI was quick but I to my recollection he wasn't know for his end to end speed more so than his short space quickness.

AI was BOTH.

He had that Deion thing going on, tho'.

Honestly, Deion was obviously EXTREMELY fast, but he never looked like he was moving as fast as he really was.

Now I saw Rocket Ismail live and in person, and in both instances, dude looked like he was moving at superhuman speeds.

AI is like Deion, and someone like D. Rose is like Rocket Ismail. Dude is moving very fast and quick, and it LOOKS that way.

Spud was a quick lil mofo!

Spud looked like a damn middle schooler out there..and crazy that little muthafucka was winning slam dunk competitions.

You have to be ridiculous good and crafty to play in the NBA at this size.... cats like him and mugsy bogue were ridiculous

werd. And it was a much more physical league when he played too.

AI was fast as shit. Cats who saw him on a football field would tell you in a heartbeat. That guy was just athletic as fuck and equally fast and quick.

If we're talking fastest NOT quickest
no order

Zeke
kenny anderson
Russell Westbrook
Muggsy
Iverson

The fastest player(point guard to ever play in the NBA was Greg Grant from Trenton State. His speed was the only reason he ever got to the NBA.

cosign with this. he made it all look easy.

actually, the FASTEST player in the L right now is John Wall. the problem is he's not necessarily laterally quick. he's like the RG3 of the NBA right now. he's fast as hell but it's mainly straight ahead.

AI
Isiah Thomas
The rest can fall into line where ever! These 2 were lightning fast with the rock!

Kevin Johnson, he could blow right past you! KJ was the reason why the NBA created the hand check rule.

IT has to be Derrick Rose no doubt. I played D1 Footbal & a little professional, when someone who is blowing by ppl and is not working hard to do it....that person has a gift. The three thing you have to understand quickness(agility), Fast(max top speed), & Acceleration(how fast you can get to your top speed). Acceleration is the key, it doesnt matter how fast you are if it takes a long time to get to your top speed. If we just look at just fast & quickness all the people that have been mentioned have chance to be on the list, except J. Kidd:smh::smh::lol:. Example AI was very quick & fast, that is why it was always on display because he had to use to make up for his lack of height. Dont get me wrong AI acceleration was good that is why he was that dude in the league, but he always had to use the crossover to get by ppl. DRose does not have to uses the crossover to get by ppl, because he can blow by them with his first step. He uses it when he needs too because he knows he can get to his top speed very fast. That is why he always looks controlled & smooth. Then when he has to puts all three together on a move and everyone is amazed.

I think he means when Jason Kidd first got to the league
This is what I mean...

In the history of the NBA... Jason Kidd has to be in the top 5 fastest players ever...

I don't know of many players as fast as Jason Kidd... There's a few... but... I would put him in my top 5.

Damn Jason Kidd? I don't ever remember him faster than Russell Westbrook. I'm shocked niggas not saying Russell. Damon Stoudamire was fast.

Cosign on most of what you typed.

As for D Rose... ive seen him play up close plenty of times prior to his injury. D Rose was hella fast! And the fact that he's able to control the ball while going full speed is even more incredible. I havent seen any of the older kats play live....so i can only go off what ive seen since ive been going to NBA games.

I know LBJ aint a PG...but he plays PG from time to time.....so imma include him as well. I cosign Westbrook & AI as well. John Wall, K Irving....etc etc. These are the fastest players that ive seen play live. Imho...you really cant measure how fast a player is by just watching them on tv. Gotta see it live to really get the full picture.
