I like to profile successful bloggers on OneMorePayday.com to show my readers that it’s possible to be successful. While watching CNN last night, I saw a program called Black in America Silicon Valley: The New Promise Land. The program gave an interesting stat only about 1 percent of internet businesses are started by African Americans. I have decided to profile the most successful African American blogs and websites on the web. Using traffic data from compete.com the rankings are based on the blogs with most unique visitors and rankings at compete.com. All traffic reports are based on October 2011 data.

Worldstarhiphop.com- Unique visitors-4,769,400 Compete.Com Rank 351

The world’s most loved and hated hip-hop video site had over 4 million unique visitors in October 2011 according to compete.com. Alexa.com ranked the site at 247 in the United States for Traffic. Despite the hate worldstarhiphop.com proves that hate is good for traffic.

2.Mediatakeout.com- Unique visitors- 2,822,095 Compete.Com Rank 637

Mediatakeout.com is a blog style gossip type website. Fred Mwangaguhunga in 2006 started Mediatakeout.com and claims it to be the most visited urban website in the world. The site received over 2.8 million unique visitors in October 2011.

3.Theroot.com Unique Visitors-1,194,668 Compete.Com Rank 1,756

Theroot.com is a news magazine type site founded by Henry Louis Gates and the Washington post in 2008. Be sure to check out the blog roll on the site which features over 50 other African American blogs.

4.******.com- Unique Visitors-973,658 Compete.Com Rank 2,161

******.com is another gossip blog that had almost 1 million unique visitors in October 2011. This blog has gained momentum in the last two years becoming the number two African American gossip blog after mediatakeout.com.

5.Globalgrind.com Unique Visitors- 791,049 Compete.Com Rank -2,671

A hip-pop culture blog founded by Russell Simmons this blog has climbed the rankings while also providing great content.

6.Thisis50.com- Unique Visitors- 537,014- Compete.Com Rank - 3,992

This isn’t a blog site but I felt it needed to be included on this list because it’s hosted by Ning.com. Ning.com is a social network platform that anyone can join to start a social network without having any computer knowledge at all. 50 cent has the money to build his own social network from the ground up. But why do that when you can spend that money on advertising and save money by using NING.com already existing infrastructure. 50 cent is a very good businessman and his site thisis50.com had over 500,000 unique visitors in October 2011.

7.Necolebitchie.com-Unique Visitors-511,100 Compete.com Rank 4,187

Necole Kane was unemployed when she started her blog Necolebitchie.com. Now with hard work and perseverance her blog is now one the most visited black celebrity gossip blogs on the internet.

8.TheYBF.com-Unique visitors -459,880- Compete.Com Rank 4,674

The Young, Black and Fabulous Blog is a favorite among African American college aged females. Founder Natasha started this blog alone and it’s is an inspiration for anyone who wants to start a blog business. Most of her revenues come from advertising. Young, Black and Fabulous has a great website design and I expect the theybf.com to climb higher up the rankings in a few years.

9.Allhiphop.com-Unique visitors-417,998 Compete.Com Rank 5,136

This the first site on the list that isn’t a celebrity gossip blog or video site. Allhiphop.com has steadily climbed the rankings and has outranked sohh.com and other older hip-hop sites.

10.Sandrarose.com-Unique Visitors-341,210 Compete.com Rank-6,263

Sandra rose is unique from the other gossip blogs because she writes from an insider point of view. Good layout and check out the blog roll as well found some good websites listed there.

I would like to see more diversity on this list. Most of the blogs are either celebrity video based or celebrity gossip based. Celebrities can be used to draw attention or traffic to your blog. Write an article about a celebrity that has something to do with your blog. Spin the article and submit it to different article directories to build traffic to your blog. The formula for being successful is already there. You just have study it and apply those same principles to build your own blog business. Go to OnemorePayday.com to find more tips on how to build your own blog business.

I'm glad to see the Root doing well. Looks like people spend a lot of time on sites that aren't productive or improve their well being.

What are some good article directories to send blog posts to generate traffic?
