I think that Buffalo game at home was the final nail in the coffin.

I think they would have done better with Bridgewater.

Bowles led the Jets to a 4-12 record in 2018, which marked the continuation of a disappointing run for the Elizabeth, New Jersey, native.

During his tenure in New York, Bowles went 24-40, and he capped his stint with three consecutive losing seasons.

Things started promisingly for the formerArizona Cardinals defensive coordinator, as he went 10-6 in his first season with the Jets in 2015. New York missed the playoffs in 2015, though, and it never returned to that level under Bowles.

The lack of a reliable starting quarterback marred Bowles' tenure, but he may have had a hand in the development of a franchise signal-caller this season.

New York selected Sam Darnold out of USC with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2018 NFLdraft, and though he was shaky to start his career and made his share of mistakes, he made promising strides over the final month of the season.

Darnold did that despite having limited weapons around him, so his progress could make the Jets' head coaching job a desirable one with Bowles now out of the picture.

It isn't likely the 55-year-old Bowles will immediately land on his feet with another head NFL job, but he shouldn't have much trouble finding work as a coordinator.

Though the Jets have struggled defensively in recent seasons, they were fourth in total defense and ninth in scoring defense under Bowles in 2015.

Also, in his two seasons as Arizona's defensive coordinator, Bowles led the Cards to top-10 finishes in points allowed.

Things didn't work out for Bowles in New York, but he is still a quality defensive mind who could be an asset to many coaching staffs in the NFL.

He got a fair shot in my opinion

you aint wrong

but to be FAIR...

look at the QBs he had?

and considering this season was a COMPLETE rebuild?

He wasn't THAT bad.

But his personality did NOT fit NY

and he made some coaching mistakes that were just too glaring.

But I really hope he gets another shot.

They finally found their franchise QB. These black coaches are always stop-gaps until management really feels like they have the problem solved and they're ready to make the leap.

I gotta go see who were the QBs he had BEFORE Darnold...

Ryan Fitzpatrick and Geno Smith....

Bryce Petty

Josh McCown

gawd damn

my keyboard had 2 interceptions just typing that out.

Same thing with Wilks, Hue Jackson, and Vance Joseph. You can't expect coaches to win with trash ass QBs...and I said when Jackson got hired they were going to let him eat all those losses (which means he'll never get another HCing coaching) and fire him as soon as they got the QB situation figured out. The team is stacked with talent and not ready to make the leap.

I'm amazed by how long he's survived.

I'm over charging owners for what they did with Jeff Fisher.

I was too happy when the jets had a black coach and qb..

but I knew damn well they was never gonna develop a "black" qb in new york...especially not with a black coach..

the minute they made fitzpatrick their go to qb..

it was a fuckin wrap...

I aint give a fuck about the jets no more...

I think Im going for the ravens how is that lil bro qb still doing over there...

I havent seen a game all year... but if there is a bro qb in the playoffs..

I may go to a playoff party or two...

Found QB or not, dude had a shot, 4 years is vastly more than most black coaches get in the first place. Would you keep an under performing manager for 4 years if you had a business? Or would you look at it and say I gave you tools, they might not have been the best but you didn't make it happen.

I don;t know how long he can keep this up

but this dude got SUPERSONIC speed the o line is solid as long as they can call some plays ...

I'm not a fan of Bowles. Doesn't change my point and no honest management would say "I gave him the tools"... the squad has been trash. That's the GM's fault. The team is not under-performing. They don't have much talent and sent several starters to IR while starting a rookie QB.

Now a white coach is going to take over with the biggest issue being resolved (QB)...now they can build a squad with their franchise QB on a rookie contract.

My point remains. Black coaches more often than not get the shittiest available coaching jobs and get fired just when management solves the QB problem.

this usually happens to blk coaches in all leagues...give him the job while rebuilding then when they feel like they have their pieces time to ship his ass off....:hmm:

Bowles however always had a decent defense and had some pretty decent win losses with what he had....

Anthony Lynn made most of his opportunity

Vance Joseph with the Broncos will probably be fired tomorrow.
He was basically fucked when Cousins decided to go to Minnesota instead of Denver.
That actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
No way he was going to win with Case Keenum, no matter how good that defense played.
Joseph will probably end up back in Cincinnati as the defensive coordinator.
Hence, while you probably won't hear anything from Cincy until Joseph is relieved of his duties.

That team is shitty because John Elway hasn't solved the QB issue. That's Elway's fault not the coach. That team isn't underperforming. The offensive talent isn't there to compete in their division.

I think they look at it as they had mediocre play from Manning that last go around for that ring....they probably thought Keenum was enough. He's gotta find a quarterback. That offense has some ways to go but it was a nice find to get Linsday. Gotta upgrade the rest of the offense too now.

Lindsay was a super come up... franchise RB and didn't even draft him... got him off the street.

Man I'm gonna tell you know...if you are a head coach in year 2 or 3....and your team decides to draft a quarterback with your 1st round pick? You are cooked. Straight up. You already know you about to miss out on the post season and its going to be numerous years of doing it.

Jets job was a dead man walking job before he even took it. I hated he took it when he did. He's gonna probably have to be a DC to get his cred back up and get another shot as a head coach.

NFL is a fucked up place to coach. You only get 16 games and you have to win 10 or 11 of those to get into the playoffs to save your job. And oh yeah chances are you are taking over a shitty team to begin with otherwise if they were good they wouldn't' be needing a new coach.

Yep. I think Sutton gonna be alright. Traded DT....probably letting Sanders go.....they are going to have to go into this offseason and overhaul the offensive skilled positions. And when they do it they may have to groom a young quarterback........a mess to be in. I wonder what head coach takes that job. They are going to inherit a nice defense though.

I like Lamar Jackson but that offense is a joke. I Guess its cool now since they feel he's too raw to be a passer but that offense is silly and Bills trying to do the same shit with their qb too. Instead of developing him as a passer to letting him develop into one....they got this nigga out here carrying like he's a tailback. Shit is odd.

only Lynn LAC lucked up....actually had established good players....most likely COTY....too bad most brothas don't get those kind of opportunities

I hear you

I mean a COMBO might work (Steve Young, young McNabb)

but I understand the league has changed ALL THE RULES to benefit a pocket passer...

Its GREAT to have that WEAPON and a SMART offensive coordinator NEEDS ot tailor his playbook to the TALENT AVAILABLE.

But we have seen WAY to many "mobile" quarterbacks get KILLED out here...

But I thin the league has gotten so INFLUENCED by the college game?

maybe it CAN work?

Maybe that Buffalo QB and Lamar could thrive...

I think the Big Ben, Cam QBs though are gonna be done.

I'm interested to see what these mobile qb's can do throwing to wide open guys like Jared Goff seems to do. Sean McVey makes the game easy for him.
