NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A local business owner is apologizing after an email containing pornography was blasted out to thousands of customers.

The email appeared to be from GUAC Mexican Restaurant, which has locations in Bellevue and Donelson.

One customer who contacted News 2 after receiving the email said he thought it was a coupon.

The subject line said, “Free combo coupon inside,” but when he opened the email, he saw a pornographic image and an offer to buy drugs.

GUAC owner, Rakesh Bery, told News 2 he was “horrified” when he learned about the email on Wednesday morning.

“What if a minor saw it? It could be so bad, so distasteful, so negative,” he told News 2.

The email had Bery’s name on it, but he says it wasn’t sent from his account.

Bery immediately posted a clarification on Facebook and asked customers to ignore it.

“I would like to say if it hurt anybody, I’m extremely apologetic. It’s not our doing. We need to investigate and find out who did this,” said Bery.

The local entrepreneur says he’s not sure how it happened.

Bery suspects he was hacked and that’s how someone retrieved the email addresses.

He believes someone then created a fake email account for GUAC and blasted the nasty image and message to thousands of customers.

Bery doesn’t know who is behind the email or why they sent it.

“I’m still in a relative shock to understand what’s going on and why anyone would be so mean,” he told News 2.

Bery says he has talked to an attorney and contacted Metro police.
