I inherited a week in Newport, R.I.
I can exchange to a sister resort or other places in the Resorts Intl. network but I like my resort.
I can get my sailing & kayaking on, jazz festival is crazy now so I go for 1 day (not during my week).
Nice restaurants abound with the option of home grilling/cooking in the resort unit.
$1,000 annual maintenance fee but I can rent out Fri - Sun & get that back while I stay the remaining 4 days.
Most years I just stay the week. There's plenty to do/see/hear/taste!

That piece Oliver did is real - lots of people regret making that vacation choice often done under pressure.
My sister has the point system - a headache for her and she never goes to her "home" resort locale.

To achieve success you gotta pick a resort/organization that's easy to deal with.

I traveled with my son's AAU team and stayed at timeshares when one was close to the tournament using bonus time.

I also stayed during inVegas during his college conference tourney in vegas. Using bonus time it cost 100 for 5 days in Vegas .

There was one not too far from the crib and we used the grounds to have cookouts and such.

My daughter used to have her birthday parties there with her friends using bonus time to get the weekend.

So I get plenty of use when I had one.

That's the key - getting as much from the resort location other than your week.
I'm 100 miles away from Newport, R.I. so I go to sail, dine or just hang any time.
A couple times I've gone on Fri - Sun with 1 - took her home from our weekend away...
then sccoped up another who took a few days off from her job for Mon - Fri end the week.
Fresh linen, towels like we just arrived for the 1st time.

I’ve been to the Orlando ones with Hilton and Sheraton. I flat out told the pretty chick at the Sheraton they put there to finesse men that I can travel anywhere I want and don’t need a timeshare. I proceed to tell her everywhere I’ve been to and how I plan this and that next. She conceded defeat and gave me my discount. Rinse and repeat at Hilton. I somehow ended up in another one one time in Honolulu after some little white girl tricked us into giving information for discounted helicopter rides. My guy was confused about why I was there. Had to explain to him that I have a business that is a points making machine. I can go anywhere i want.
