I only own 1 dashiki and have maybe worn in 3 times to work in the 20+ years I've had it. Funny, the native African cats that work for the org I work for wear theirs. I haven't seen many bruthas NOT born on the continent wear them. My ex-boss (Haitian@-American brutha)once told me he has a bunch he'd like to wear, but is reluctant. I'm gonna start wearing mine more often and maybe buy a few more. Look at it this way, the LGBT stuff has opened the door for looser dress code restrictions. If any of us wore a skirt or dress to work( not that any of us here would want to)they couldn't send us home if we are "expressing our truth", thus we should be allowed to wear dashikis.

I work for a Chaldean (Iraqi) whose family I grew up with in The D when he took over from his father our whole staff became very diverse and casually dressed. Suit and ties only come out for certain events and meetings. Some boomer cacs could not handle this and either retired or left the company and one of the big effects of this happening was company value went up 1000%, we have a bigger footprint in multi fields and a work environment that has attracted a lot of diverse talent. A day in my office even with the hybrid model we are working with looks like a united nation meeting some time if you want to see Israels and a palestinians working and joking around together come to my office.

I'd wear one, I highly doubt folks would give a shit. Most would probably compliment me.

Dashikis are harmless, show up like this and see the look in them wypipo faces.

I consider myself a freedman, black, negro; I don't consider myself an African like step off a plane and feel like I am home.

I uncovered some scheme they were trying to do with WS during the pandemic. I also seen historical accounts how they protested to Europeans about them abolishing slavery.

They always got some stupid grin chasing me around.

Back when I worked in an office environment, I wore a dashikis, Malcom X shirts, etc. during black history month. Never told me shit, just got looks. Shid.....back when I was a young sprat, I went to a majority white elementary school in Miami Shores which had maybe a total of 10 black kids in the whole school and for black history week, moms had me wear a dashiki, toughskin jeans and black or brown hard soled shoes with a platform heel. My sister would hot pick my hair out to make my natural bigger. Man, the teachers, staff, and students didn't know what to say. I'm really dating myself.
