This is the Real Scared Straight! Clayton County Jail documentary

Started watching. Not sure if he actually did it or not, but i didn't fuck with the idea of the guy acting like an inmate. Why are they allowing someone to play in an environment that people are living in danger.

Before someone says they shouldn't be in jail to begin with, apparently you could be in there for a fucking traffic violation. The only reason you are in jail is due to a backlog. Imagine being with violent criminals and your offense was reckless driving ( in this area simply driving above 70). You defend yourself from a a makeshift knife and are giving more time.

I'm actually all for it. We pump billions into prisons and run then like slums, allowing rapes, assaults, torture (solitary confinement) and other inhuman and inhumane treatment because our society sees inmates as less than human and deserving of the worst.

Things like this can help, if not done to sensationalize prison life.

Someone cosplaying as an inmate doesn't help. Its no different from the White people who visit bad Black neighborhoods as a tourist attraction. Its one thing to show the facility and living conditions. It's ok to interview inmates. Its not ok to have people play inmate for the day.

We may not be aware of the living conditions shown, but we've all heard about the other aspects like the violence, rape, poor food and under staffed facilities. This isn't new information.

You already said part of the issue. Inmates aren't viewed as humans. The other is if you are in prison/jail people feel it is justified and avoidable so why feel sorry for them. Even with something as potentially minor as my example of reckless driving.
