Please distinguish racism from best interest. That is, because someone opposes illegal Mexican immigration by the country-load, doesn't at all mean that they dislike Mexicans, etc. It means, solomente, that they disapprove of such massive illegality. Period. I don't have to restate here what I believe are valid concerns against illegal immigration, they were stated in the "What is the Black Position on Illegal Immigration" thread. I stand by those reasons and if you find any of those reasons you believe to be rascist, please cut and paste them here and I will be happy to discuss them.

I know you have long forgotten, but it was I who defended you against racist name calling, etc., on this board. We got off track, hermano, when YOU preceived my comments against illegal immigration as being anti-Mexican. As I said, they aren't the same.

Secondly I proposed the positives we as a people get from having the latino people as our allies. Which I assume you agree with me on other than the mexicans who you feel are our enemies. I haven't had the length of negative experiences with mexicans that you have so I don't see the level of racism you see. You feel unity with mexican americans is a pipe dream. I see the unity mexicans have with the rest of the latino community and I see the unity the latino community has with black people and believe that it is a powerful alliance that should be fostered. Once again we can agree to disagree about the reciprocal love between black and mexican communities.

If you are really want to see black and mexican people live together in peace which I believe you do then we are in total agreement. We as black people can discuss illegal immigration till we are blue in the face but we don't have the power to do anything about it. What we do have the power to do something about is the poor relationship between blacks and mexicans especially in L.A. and that is what we should be working to fix.

Actually in my state N.C. black labor organizations are working very closely with Mexican organizations to fight for rights of poor workers. The unity has proven to be very productive for all workers.

The cultural divide is so vast because unfortunatly both brown and black people were stripped of our culture in America.
