This 110 year old Veteran has a few words for you.

I can't understand why any black man would join the service... this country doesn't & hasn't ever respected us. Ijs

Very inspirational. "You don't know when you got here and you don't know when you going". "I may give out, but I never give up".

I enjoy cigars so it was nice to see he still enjoys cigars. 12 cigars a day though. That would just tire out my palate.

There is no one more American than the Black man. Not even Native Americans can compare.

We are IT.

Anybody who doesn't respect us as a group should die expeditiously.

black Americans are hated because we epitomize and live everything that the USA claims to believe in.....

a harsh reminder to those who simply claim to believe in those principles that they will always fall short.....

Richard Overton gets to stay in his home after $117K raised

Up to 140k now so still taking donations

The prospect of Richard Overton, 110, being moved to an assisted living facility prompted Volma Overton Jr., the veteran’s third cousin, to start a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for around-the-clock in-home care.

“We all knew that if you move Richard out of his home, he’d die,” said Overton Jr. “That home is everything for him.”

The fundraising campaign has raised $117,000 since its launch last December, enough money to keep Overton in his home of around 70 years for another seven months.

“His front porch is a special place,” Volma Overton, 68, told ABC News. “He always sits there and waves to people and everyone just comes by and talks to him.”

It was the idea of Volma Overton’s 26-year-old daughter, Sarah, a graphic designer, to start a GoFundMe campaign. The family was unsure of what to do when Overton’s caretaker experienced aging issues of her own and was no longer able to care for him.

The closest heir to Overton, who was twice married but has no children of his own, is a 95-year-old cousin who lives a few doors down. Volma Overton is now Overton’s primary family caretaker, stopping by every day to check on him.

I respect any centenarian, can't live that long unless you are living and doing something right. I don't think I would want to live that long though.

Smokes mad cigars, drinks like a sailor, eats processed food on the regular and yet he still has all his facilities and enjoying what he calls life.

Shows how far a good attitude will take you. Key phrase throughout......."makes you feel good".

I've probably met you before on another one of your anti military rants, but I'll entertain you again tonight.

Has a black man coming out of High School who doesn't have the grades or the willingness to go to college the military is not a Bad Bet. However, any young person I talk to I tell them how important it is to pick a job that has outside relevance- which means when you get out you can still work a job in that field

I did purchasing when I was in the Navy, and I do purchasing now. I am not in a position to start my own business because of that experience in the supply field AND I will be in a position within the next 10 years to start a business in the black community to change the way business is done in our community and do it in such a way that the error was won't be able to compete

The military gave me that. Am I willing to die for this country? Hell no. But I do want to put myself in a position where I can make change and I can't do that complaining that this country hasn't loved me.
