First, let me say, RIP and respect to the dead.

Ok, fuck it, I'ma get in it.

Here's the first thing. " He'll never be biggie ". :hmm:

Explain, what are you trying to quantify?

Whose a better writer, whose a better lyricist? Whom has/had better delivery? Who was/is a more successful as a rapper?

We DO know, Big was a probably a better freestyler and battle rapper, but don't even try to say he is a better story teller than Jay Z.

But the fallacy of the argument is, some people here are looking at the two as if they are simply different faces of the same coin.

Biggie to Jay Z is like apples and oranges. It's as idiotic as comparing AZ to Pac. Look at the track listing of Ready to die, an tell me what does Biggie spend 90% of his time communicating about. :hmm: Meanwhile, listen to Reasonable doubt.

:hmm:

Biggie:

" I don't wanna live no more! "

Jay-Z:

" Can I live! "

Musical relevance as an artist? Well, when you sample Juicy Fruit, and between the sheets it's real easy to catch the ear of a simple minded black audience who can't let go of 20 yr old songs.

:hmm:

Lastly, but not least. The discussion comes down to comparing Suicidal thoughts against Regrets.

If your the type of person to whom things happen, you relate to Suicidal thoughts, if your an observer and student of life, you understand Regrets.

Biggie lacked the ability to make emotional connection to the listener. You may be connected to, where, or when, or whom you were with when you heard him . . . but you are not connected to his communication directly.

Jay has been doing that since the get. Not only production choices, vocal samples, but also in his honest expression.

This can't be life got spirits in it like Native American flute music n shit. Period.

Miss me with, " He'll never be biggie "

I'm glad he's not.

The Dynasty is one of the last working cassette tapes I have, and it might be close to dying because I wear it out in my car on a regular. What? Fuck the 21st century. I keep it old school ;)

Very good argument for explaining the difference between the too.

Being that I agree with this stuff, I do feel that BIG only got to be the best by dying. It's sort of a title bestowed upon him after death, he literally had a "life after death" because he wasn't as popular before he died. You have to wonder would BIG have continued to be relevant had he stayed alive. He was down with Puff Daddy, who was on his paper chase... Diddy might have tried to put him in a shiny suit and turn him into pop culture...

idk.. i'm just thinking out loud...

:dance::dance::dance:

Man there are some smart cats on BGOL afterall...

Big only had TWO albums! How the fuck does the constitute him being the greatest? His death is the only reason people call him the greates of all time. We'll never know if he would've been able to maintain longevity. In my opinion he would have eventually became mediocre under Puffy. Yes, I called his dumb ass Puffy! Fuck all that Diddy shit! B.I.G. is definitely in the top four. But to say that he is number 1, nah!

We all have our opinions, but the fact is even Jay-Z called him the greatest: He said "Biggie, Jay-Z & Nas" on his 2nd CD. I think it was on "Where I'm From". And Jay Z constantly bites Biggie's verses and flow

That ninja also re-told how he fucked Nas's baby momma and skeeted on the baby's car seat.

Is that how you treat one of the greatest!

:hmm:

But in the end . . .

Jay and Dame in background:
Yeah, yeah!

Ay, brotha Shane, you gotta break shit down for these muhfuckas all the time. :smh: Your analysis pretty much said it all. A niccu' dies and he's automatically a legend.

Jay-Z bites BIG's flow?? Huh? Wha? Hellen Keller musta told you that shit. :(

As for 'biting' rhymes, rappers do it all the fuckin' time, it's the nature of the game. Niccu's need to get over that shit. The Pope bites Jesus' flow all the time so whatever ...

The rest of my argument goes as follows:

They're all overrated mainstream rappers. Jay-Z is like 55 still rapping about slanging crack. :smh: If Biggie wasn't shot back in the day he would have died of a heart attack by now. Pac would be doing dance routines with Soulja Boy if he was still alive. Nas follows whatever trend is out. It takes him a minute to catch on to those trends sometimes too. KRS ONE, Wise Intelligent, and GURU, single handedly shit on all the other rappers mentioned combined, but that's just my opinion. Here's a thought, why not say I think so and so is the best, or so and so is my favorite rapper. There isn't a greatest rapper. It's all subjective. It's your opinion and nothing else.:lol: You can't argue against someone's opinion. Opinions of music are neither right or wrong, they're just opinions.

That's just something people who don't posses the audacity to enact their opinions into standards, and back their opinions say.

While you laughing.

Very Omega personality. Very, " Well guys we didn't win, but we did our best! We're all winners because at least we played! "

:hmm:

Does any writer, reviewer, or the magazine itself, Rolling Stone, have a disclaimer on their cover, " These are just our OPINIONS on music ". NO. They are respected, and feared, because of their opinions and analysis of MUSIC.

The Source, magazine, called themselves the authority, now what is it . . . The Bible of Hip Hop etc.

That's audacity.

That's when people know, what you say, opinion or not, means something, WILL HAVE AN EFFECT ON THE STANDARD PERCEPTION OF . . . the subject upon which you speak.

That audacity tells people, your opinion is based in analysis, and you will stand by the words that you state. That's KING shit.

Opinions on music hold weight. YOU simply do not wish to MAKE yours do so.

c'mon now shane...you clippin my wings cuz we have differing opinions?
all of those magazines are full of opinions not fact. their opinion just happens to be well respected. what the man said was not a cop out. There is no scientific standard for determining what rapper is better than what rapper so all claims of greatness are just based on opinion.

Big L was hot too

shane what u know about Lamont Coleman?

Don't get mad because I dissed your favorite rapper.:lol: The Source?:lol: You just want to argue like a prepubescent school girl. A magazine writer's opinion on music holds no more weight than anyone else's. It actually holds less weight since they're paid by biased companies to give false opinions on whoever is hot at the moment. If you want to go off of what MTV says and believe Lil Wayne is the greatest rapper alive, feel free to. I think he's the worst rapper alive. Audacity? How much audacity does it take for the average person to say that they think whoever is the best rapper. Apparently, not much since everyone is so quick to throw their favorite rapper's name out there. Standards? Whose standards? They're certainly not my standards. :smh: There are two types of people in the world when it comes to listening to music; there are people who like the music they like because they actually like it, and there are people who like the music they like because someone else told them to. You fall into the second category.:lol:

I got a quick question. Why was Leonardo da Vinci such a famous and great painter, why did Giuliano de Medici, and the house of Savoy commission him? What makes a successful artist.

Dude ate off his art. :hmm: You keep being the defender of the meek, the has beens, and the unsigned " talented ".

You can easily define a successful artist. A successful artist EATS, LIVES, from their art. How much of an opinion is that!???

Tell us why your mad son or bugger off.

Let Del tha Funkee Homosapien crawl back in your grimy ass backpack and you jump in Cappadonna's Cab, on your way down the yellow brick road to indie bliss you big fucking mook!

He didn't call him the greatest... he said "where niggas argue all day about who's the best MC Biggie, Jay Z, OR Nas" He said niggas argue about that... Like we are doing in this thread right now! LoL...

But Jay Z's lyrics are not one sided... He is very deep... you have to listen to him! You can't skim through it... I guess I am bias because I am a huge Jay fan

Jay 55 You gotta be a jealous 20yr old. Mad because your favorite rapper is not expanding like Jay did. He told You ass clowns he opened up more doors for yall fuckers than car service. Your favorite rapper never knew about G650. Pick up the Robb Report and learn.

:smh: Are you serious? Regardless of your age you have a young mind. Jay-Z only opened up the door for up and coming rappers to lie about their ages. Rapping about material items = a rapper who lacks decent subject matter in his or her rhymes.

KRS - My wrists ain't lit up! I don't even live that life
Gold, diamonds, platinum, I give to my wife - you see
Diamonds are a girl's best friend, not mine
You got it, FINE - but what about that rhyme?
Can you rhyme? Can you spit it quick
like watermelon pits at a picnic? Ha!
Or are you just dressed up with nowhere to go?
Or is the record company the pimp and you the ho?

Verbal - You'll never be considered one of the greatest of all time if your dopest rhyme is a gun reference line.

Jay-Z is old as fuck.
That motherfucker was rapping to the Twelve Apostles and shit.

Apostle 1 - "Oh man, here comes Jazzy again. Who told him we were going to be here?"
Jay-Z - "Y'all gonna pass Jesus my demo, right? I'm saying, you know I got that hype flavor, son. On the strength money, I got stupid rhymes. I'm fresher than Kangol and Adidas. Put me on yo, put me ooooooooooonnnnnn."

Bad link and all. :lol::lol:

Biggie can't be the "GOAT" due to the fact that he only had two albums. Jay-Z is a one-dimensional rapper. Nas had that whole Nastradamus/Firm/Bravehearts era. Hmmmm, who's left??

How many CD's has he released since then??? You think he's changed his mind?? No NYC rapper is gonna say that Biggie is not the greatest.
