The Worst Company Decisions

The Saturn was popular in Japan. You could get an arcade perfect port of Xmen VS Street Fighter on it. Sony just played a better game by grabbing up exclusives.
You are confusing the Saturn with the Sega Dreamcast.

The Saturn was a mistake because in those days, sprites and pixels were huge back then and the Saturn could push a Godly number of pixels and sprites. The Saturn failed because Sega didn’t follow the trend which was a switch to polygons. The Sony PlayStation was a polygon producing system

Nintendo passing on the Nintendo Cd for the N64 which became the Playstation

I was just listening to a podcast about that..
They had a deal with Sony and then damn near at the last minute they just announced the N64 and didn't give Sony the heads up on some ice cold shit. ...

Said after that point it became that developer's mission to gut Nintendo. ... Mfkr pretty much did too

Yeah it seems after that Nintendo. Became complacent in being the after thought system to get. I feel Nintendo without a doubt can make a powerful gaming console. They just choose not to. Hell they have amitted as such. There is no way you can tell me. That they can't figure out how to come out with a system. That can hold 500Gb or 1Tb of memory.

Sure nintendo, could... Hell you could argue up until the GameCube Nintendo was in an "arms race" with all the other companies. ... But they get a lot of easy $$ off of Zelda, Poke and Mario which have never required "next gen" graphics... Just depth of game play and a good story.

And the WII was a fucking rock star system on current gen graphics....

They tried to strike lightning twice with the U, which failed.. . I would say they are settled on being a niche system / company.

Why spend millions / billions in r&d and try to compete with Sony and Xbox on a hot rod system when you can spend less millions and develop a nice everyday driver that people will still buy? Especially when you can give it a nice price point?

I agree with all of your points. But I think the real reason WII sales where through the roof. Was because of Zelda. Because at the time of the release. There was a 4 year gap from the last console release. Then there was the bullshit with skyward sword being delayed. And eventually being pushed to the WIIU. After they did that shit I was like fuck Nintendo.

Because the fans is only getting one game of the series per system. And you can't download the newest game in the series on an old console. Because I know that's how things work.

I read this book called Paradigm Shift. It is a must read for any engineer. It went all the way back to the horse and buggy versus the automobile. Essentially any leading technology have the ability to maintain their dominance if they recognize the replacement technology early enough so they can invest in R&D before the buy in for the replacement technology gets too expensive. However most companies recognize too late because they spend all of their resources trying to improve market share for a dying tech to the point of not have any money left to save themselves.

This video reminds of the aforementioned book and I would not be surprise if this cat read it.

Good drop fam...

Zelda was a big part, but it was selling outside of that too. . The nicheness of it being more interactive.. It changed how you played all these standard games... Zombie games, shooters, you coild really get involved with sword fighting... Hell the fitness aspect of it and dance games were just different enough to be inclusive to most.

It also had adult titles on it, like real adult XXX ish. Game developers were fighting over themselves to get onto the WII.

Haha

I see the replacement tech for traditional plastics...

If only i had an audience tho.... This shit is a game changer in another market, but its usefulness and value could explode in the fields of plastics and the environment, hell even climate change may be effected positively

I hated that Skyward sword game though. I found out that there was syncing problems with the damn Wii mote and nunchucks. I went through a new pair of controllers. I ended up buying a used pair to finish the game.

Damn.
That Xerox computer was way ahead of it's time.
It laid the groundwork for damn near every computer and most electronics today.
The dude said they only showed Jobs 1% of it's capabilities.
Just imagine if Jobs wouldn't have showed up that day :eek2:

Did Xerox really loose? They got a million shares of Apple stock in return.

Assuming they kept a good portion of it, they came out okay.

Xerox didnt kno what they had. No one really knew what tech was going to become at that time.

However Kodak knew exactly what they had and decided to milk the film market until it ran dry. Greed killed them.

Nah homie.
They fucked that up to.
It wasn't a million shares.
Apple didn't give Xerox $1 million in shares, they gave Xerox the opportunity to buy $1 million in stock, which Xerox did.
It was an offer of 100,000 shares of pre-IPO stock for $1 million that wound up being worth $16 million.
Check out page 75 on the attached link

Xerox basically got rid of all of its business interest in Apple in the late 80s.
They were in fact in the same business and they killed that business within the company.
So they had no reason to invest any money in an outside company in the same business.
The Xerox Systems Group was dismantled around 1989 and it became the Special Markets Group which was all about small printers and fax machines - essentially in competition with Hewlett Packard, Canon and Epson.

Am I the only one who misses blockbuster? I miss the social aspect of going to blockbuster every every weekend to find movies.
