Bruce and Chuck were friends and he asked Chuck to play in the movie.
Chuck didn't really like that he had to lose in the movie.....

FYI - Chuck was a professional multi-title & multi-year winning world champion martial arts fighter
I think he kicks Bruce's ass in real life. Bruce never fought professionally or in any tournaments
Kinda like Rocky fighting Mike Tyson imo.

Again, we have nothing to measure Bruce by, nothing at all.
Yeah, he was in shape & fast but he never fought competitively on any level
Chuck fought the world's best at his weight and beat them, like it or not
He held the World's Middleweight belt for 6 years

Resume: Can't overlook any of these accomplishments
  • 10th degree black belt in Chun Kuk Do,
  • 9th degree black belt in Tang Soo Do,
  • 8th degree black belt in Taekwondo,
  • 5th degree black belt in Karate
  • 3rd degree black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu from the Machado family
  • Black belt in Judo
  • In 1967, he won the Sparring Grand Champions at the S. Henry Cho's All American Championship, and won it again the following year
  • In 1968, he won the Professional Middleweight Karate champion title, which he held for six consecutive years.
  • In 1969, he won Karate's triple crown for the most tournament wins of the year.
  • In 1969, he won the Fighter of the Year award by Black Belt magazine.

Chuck has skills, even now... and had major skills back in the day. I wish he and Bruce would have at least really sparred on camera so we could have a real idea about how it would go even though it wouldn't be a no holds barred street fight.

I do know that Chuck did fight professionally, but they weren't full contact karate matches, so although people did get hit in the face, I don't think that full contact head shots were landed very often. Looking at the crappy videos of those fights, I see some high kicks that usually don't land, so I'm wondering if as in the tournaments I was in (amateur) points might be given for a kick near the head, that was never meant to actually land. Either way, he had major skills and fought other guys who had major skills professionally, and he was heavier than Bruce, but I can't give his professional career the same weight as I would if he was fighting full contact where the fighters are trying to take each other's heads off.

So even though mostly due to the weight and the lack of seeing Bruce in as many tourney type fights (I THINK there's video of him giving a demo against someone at a tournament if I'm not mistaken), I'd put it at 60/40 in chucks favor. He was quick, but Bruce was way quicker, so there's a question of how that would affect it.

Love that Way of the Dragon fight scene though.... that fuckin Kitten owned it.

I've seen this movie before....but I want to know how is the hell did Chuck Norris even get a chance to be next to a Bruce Lee?this here fight is his best acting ever cause he's a terrible actor, how did he slip threw the crack.

Maybe I wasn't born early enough but Chuck just isn't what I think about when I think of bad ass white dude,my father says Charles Bronson was it.

talking shit....

Chuck and Bruce were good friends and Bruce wanted him in the flick. Remember, he also put Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in "Game of Death". Also, in Enter the Dragon, the guy with the scar over his eye was I think karate fighter Bob Wall and the guy he tricked into getting off the boat at the beginning was another pro karate guy, but I forget his name.

Chuck had skills....

Actually, Lee wanted Joe Lewis for the role. Lewis was a heavyweight karate champion who turned down the part because he thought losing to such a small man was ridiculous.

Bruce Lee was a teacher in his own right. Whom I read got into real fights when he was a youth in China. Was also a student of fighting and created his own art of fighting called Jeet Kune Do. I’m not just GIVING Chuck a win over Bruce Lee.
