Dwayne Johnson is running for president — and he's got some famous help.
Okay, technically the 2032 version of the Rock on Young Rock is the one making a bid for the White House, and EW can exclusively reveal that he'll be aided by Rosario Dawson (The Mandalorian) and Randall Park (Fresh Off the Boat), who are joining the upcoming NBC comedy. Get a first look at Dawson and Park above and below.

Young Rock tells the story of Johnson's upbringing, spotlighting him at ages 10, 15, and 20 (played by Adrian Groulx, Bradley Constant, and Uli Latukefu). But in addition to narrating, the real Johnson will be playing himself in 2032, as the wrestler-turned-movie-star aims to add president to his multihyphenate title.

Park, reuniting with his Fresh Off the Boat boss and Always Be My Maybe director, Nahnatchka Khan, who co-created Young Rock, stars as… Randall Park. Here, the actor has transitioned to journalism and is given all-access coverage to Johnson's presidential campaign, interviewing the candidate throughout the season and letting audiences (and voters) better get to know the possible future commander-in-chief.

"I will basically do anything for Natch," says Park of Khan, who he worked with for six seasons on the ABC sitcom Fresh Off the Boat. "She's one of my favorite people in the world, and every project we've worked on together has been an absolute delight. With her, Jeff Chiang, and some others from Fresh Off The Boat and Always Be My Maybe, I saw this as an opportunity to enjoy a mini reunion of sorts. Also, like the rest of the world, I am a huge fan of the Rock. And the prospect of hanging out with him, tossing jokes around, was something I couldn't pass up."
After portraying Kim Jong-un in the controversial movie The Interview, Park is no stranger to fictional political sit-downs, but this much friendlier chat went in a slightly different direction when Park came up with the idea to play himself on Young Rock.
"I'm basically playing an absurd version of myself in the future," shares Park, who is currently reprising his Marvel role as Jimmy Woo on WandaVision. "Originally, the role was a fictional news reporter with a made-up name. But one day, I called up Natch and pitched her the idea of me playing myself. I just thought it would be funny and weird to portray me having made the pivot from acting to news reporting, especially in contrast to Dwayne making the move from acting to running for president of the United States. Thankfully, she thought it was funny too. I guess this is also a good way for me to keep my options open for the future. I now have a news reporting reel if I ever decide to go that route!"

Meanwhile, Dawson, who recently broke the internet with her badass appearance on The Mandalorian, will play General Monica Jackson, "a resilient leader, confident and steadfast in her decisions. Representative of her decorated years of service, General Jackson is an unrivaled force whose respected ethics and values are introduced as a very integral key to Dwayne Johnson's presidential campaign."

Loved the 1st episode. I'm ready or episode 2.

I'll say this.........

...if somebody is going to make a show centered around old school wrestlers....they may have a nice little show on their hands. Easily the best parts of this show was seeing Andre, JYD, etc.

One of my friends on the West Coast texted me this morning, practically pleading me to watch this.
And this is a Dude who's not a fan of Wrestling nor TV Comedies.
He was raving about the show.

Yeah.
So am I.
This show definitely plays to Older Peeps love of WWF's early days.
That was the BEST Part of it.

And the actress who plays his Mother is GORGEOUS!!!

Some GREAT casting on this show.

Rocky is kind of a douche....a good natured douche but really self absorbed...

Johnson recounted in his autobiography Soulman that he met his first wife, Una Sparks, at a dance while he was training to become a boxer. Una was from Cherrybrook, Nova Scotia, and a devout Jehovah's Witness.[20] They had two children, Curtis and Wanda, whom he thanked at his 2008 WWE Hall of Fame induction. While married to Una, he became romantically involved with Ata Fitisemanu Maivia, daughter of wrestling legend "High Chief" Peter Maivia.[3] Ata met Rocky after Maivia and Johnson were tag team partners in a match on the independent circuit. Peter Maivia disapproved of their relationship because Johnson was a wrestler.[21] Their son Dwayne was born May 2, 1972.

Johnson stated that, in order to provide for his two families, he adopted a frugal lifestyle on the road; he subsisted on beer, sliced cheese, and bologna, and was not a "partier".[22] He did not reveal if Una knew about Ata and Dwayne, but stated that she gave him an ultimatum to quit wrestling, or they would have to separate as Jehovah's Witnesses "didn't believe in blood sport".[23] He stated that he and Una parted amicably and remained good friends. He obtained a divorce in Texas, then filed for a marriage license in Florida on December 21, 1978, to marry Ata. By marrying her, he became a member of the famous Samoan Anoa'i family. They divorced in 2003.[22][24] During his wrestling years, Johnson was known for his extra-marital affairs.[25]

Johnson was married to Sheila Northern, a speech pathologist, at the time of his death.

Legal issues

In 1987, Johnson was arrested and charged with rape of a 19-year-old Tennessee woman.[25] He claimed he was "set up" by rival wrestlers.[25] The charges had him blacklisted from wrestling, leading him to alcoholism and a strained relationship with his son until several years later when he became sober.[25]

In 2000, while working at the Pine Island Community Center in Davie, Florida, Johnson was investigated for several cases of misconduct, including inviting an underage child to play strip poker and unwanted groping of female coworkers.[27] He later faced charges of battery and theft after he allegedly took home a piece of athletic equipment, as well as allegedly inappropriately grabbing a female coworker.[28] The Broward State Attorney's Office, while noting there was "sufficient evidence" that had Johnson groped his coworker, declined to prosecute because the woman feared the publicity it would bring her.[28][29]

Kenan and Young Rock Head Back to NBC for Another Round With Season Renewals

Great news for Dwayne Johnson’s (currently) fictional run for the presidency: NBC has renewed his autobiographical sitcom Young Rock for a second season, according to Variety. Network mate Kenan Thompson’s self-titled sitcom Kenan has also received a second-season order. “It has been a true joy to watch Dwayne Johnson and Kenan Thompson on NBC every week and see families connect with their relatable, entertaining, and heartwarming stories,” NBCUniversal Television and Streaming’s president of scripted programming Lisa Katz said Friday. “We’re thrilled to renew both of these shows for another season and can’t wait to see more from Dwayne, Kenan, and the incredibly talented casts and producing teams behind each of them.”
One Great Story
The one story you shouldn’t miss, selected by New York editors

Young Rock follows the actor and wrestler’s fictionalized childhood through three increasingly large Rocks, played by Adrian Groulx, Bradley Constant, and Uli Latukefu, and implies Johnson will land himself in the White House one day. Kenan, meanwhile, stars the Saturday Night Live cast member as a widowed father of two daughters Bridget and Aubrey (Dannah and Dani Lane) in Atlanta, struggling to balance single fatherhood with his job as the host of a morning show. Luckily, he has his brother Gary (Chris Redd) and father-in-law Rick (Don Johnson) to help out. And who knows? Keep these shows on long enough, and we might eventually get to see Kenan scoring an invite to President Dwayne Johnson’s inauguration. Why not? It’s 2021! There are no rules when it comes to network television anymore!

the show has some funny moments. Dude playing SoulMan is funny. It's cool to see the portrayal of all the wrestling greats. JYD, Macho Man, Andre, Sheik, Islanders
