The Rights of Women in Islam: An Authentic Approach

T-4.jpg

It has long been argued that Islam liberated Muslim women by granting them full rights as citizens. Yet in reality we see that in much of the Muslim world women have been subjected to both cultural and political oppression. Instances such as forced marriages, arbitrary divorces, female mutilations and other abuses are common in the Muslim world, as are restrictions on women's education and on their role in the labour force. This book explores these problems and highlights the contrast with what Islam - through the Quran and the Sunnah - in fact prescribes. The cause of such contradictions are shown to lie in other socio-cultural and political dynamics, quite outside the realm of the revealed religion.

Thank you benq- giving the ladies many opportunities for education with your posts sir.

Islam is no better or worst for woman than any other religion. Women just got the vote in the us in the 20th century and this was a christian nation.

Of course islamic women are going to have it bad in a bad situation. However, muslim women in Canada, England and the US are not complaining.

Christian women have it bad in rural Mexico, rural China and Serbia.

It's not about religion. It's about the climate of the nation at large.

Myanmar is not a muslim country but I bet the women have it bad. Cuba is full of Catholics and I bet they ain't singing about how great their lives are.
