....and he's 'bad' news, or maybe good news...if you're the Oakland Raider management. During the off-season, veteran Jeff Garcia (everybody's favorite back-up) signed a 2-year contract with the Raiders allegedly as a back-up to franchise QB, JaMarcus Russell...3-yrs out of LSU.

The signing was somewhat suspicious..at least questionable---because Garcia has NEVER viewed himself as a 'back-up' (although he seemed accepting such role with Oakland). This--after the former Pro-Bowler voiced a disclaimer, saying that he was ready to help Russell develope, etc, etc, etc.

In fact most thought Jeff Garcia would re-sign with the San Francisco Forty-Niners, who eagerly sought his services. Plus, there was also a 'nostalgia' angle. After all, his best years were spent in San Francisco. But --as has been said---"nostalgia only goes so far". Garcia is at a mercenary stage of his professional football life, and opportunity is the KEY word here! And the Raiders are determined to improve on their 3rd place finish in the AFL-West (5-11). Sorry JaMarcus. Another young QB is moved to the back burner. Sounds like Minnesota, sort of.

The Vikes' Tavaris Jackson is probably exhalling a sigh of relief upon learning that much sought Brett Farve says that he's "staying retired"... we think. Jackson's hopeful that he will finally get a SERIOUS look, and a little respect.

The Lions are elated that the Vikes didn't get Farve....or should be.
