The Real History of Black Friday (that they don’t want you to know)

While millions consume mindlessly, you have a choice...

We have officially entered the “Season of Conspicuous Consumption,” a period spanning the 28 days between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

This annual window is when most businesses transition from losses to profits, moving “out of the Red and into the Black” as holiday shopping reaches its peak.

The season begins with “Black Friday” and continues through Christmas Eve, marked by a surge in consumer spending and increased business earnings.

Do you know where these terms actually come from?

The Hidden History of “Black Friday”

The phrases “Black Friday,” “In the Red,” and “In the Black” have become synonymous with savings for consumers and profits for companies.

But the true origins and meanings of these terms are rarely considered.

Centuries ago, during the European enslavement of Africans, Africans were trafficked and sold among a network of businesses, banks, insurance companies, lending institutions, investors, and merchants centered around Wall Street in New York City, which was the heart of America’s burgeoning slave economy.

Profits from the sale of enslaved people meant these businesses were “In the Black,” especially if the human cargo arrived safely and was quickly sold.

Conversely, if there was resistance or tragedy during transport, resulting in loss or injury, businesses and their investors suffered financial setbacks and were “In the Red.”

These financial terms lose their ethical weight and meaning without understanding the historical context.

For those whose cultural memory has been erased, the words represent nothing more than an encouragement to consume.

The Darkest Days / The Highest Consciousness

Most people don’t realize that this period of heightened consumption coincides with the darkest days of the year, when daylight is at its minimum and spiritual receptivity is at its peak.

Our ancestors understood this.

During the winter solstice season, Culturally Conscious people don’t consume mindlessly. They reflect and renew their spirits in preparation for the coming year.

They build cultural capital instead of filling shopping carts.

So Today, I’m Asking You to Make a Choice

While millions participate in conspicuous consumption today, you have an opportunity to do something different.

To support the preservation of knowledge instead of feeding a system rooted in our exploitation.

I’ve devoted 50 years of my life to uncovering the past and restoring cultural memories that have been erased.

And my latest publication, From The Browder File Vol. III: A Browder Perspective, chronicles that 50-year journey toward enlightenment.

It was written to support you on your own path to enlightenment.
