LeBron James: See myself with Los Angeles Lakers for 'as long as I can play'

LOS ANGELES -- After eyebrow-raising comments by LeBron James leading up to the trade deadline and continuing through All-Star Weekend caused the basketball world to speculate about his future with the Lakers, James made a few things very clear Friday night.
To begin with, he wants the Lakers -- his team for the past four seasons of his 19-year career -- to be the final franchise he plays for.

"This is a franchise I see myself being with. I'm here. I'm here," James said after the Lakers' 105-102 loss to the LA Clippers. "I see myself being with the purple and gold as long as I can play."
Along with that aim, James, who is under contract for one more season and will be eligible to sign a two-year extension this summer worth north of $97 million, would like to play in the NBA alongside his 17-year-old son, Bronny, who is a junior in high school.
"I also have a goal that, if it's possible -- I don't even know if it's possible -- that if I can play with my son, I would love to do that," said James, 37. "Is that, like, something that any man shouldn't want that in life? That's like the coolest thing that could possibly happen. That doesn't mean I don't want to be with this franchise."

Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, Bronny would not be eligible to play in the NBA until the 2024-25 season.
During All-Star Weekend in Cleveland, James told The Athletic, "My last year will be played with my son. ... Wherever Bronny is at, there's where I'll be. I would do whatever it takes to play with my son for one year. It's not about the money at that point."

While it remains to be seen what the next two years will do for Bronny's draft prospects, there are plenty of machinations available for the Lakers to position themselves to acquire him. That could include trades or James' agent, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group, communicating to other teams that blocking Bronny from joining his father in Los Angeles by drafting him could make doing business with other Klutch clients more difficult.
James also said he wanted to make it clear that his role with the Lakers is that of a player. Rob Pelinka, the Lakers' vice president of basketball operations and general manager, might consult with James and Anthony Davis over personnel decisions, but according to James, the buck stops with Pelinka and the rest of the Lakers' front office.
"I don't push the buttons," James said. "They ask for my opinion, and I voice my opinion and what I believe. But I don't press any buttons. That's what our front office is for, and that's what our leadership group is for.
"I don't press no buttons. So we can state that right now."
James also said that his recent praise of Los Angeles Rams general manager Les Snead and Oklahoma City Thunder general manager Sam Presti was not related to his opinion of Pelinka's on-job performance.

"If I comment [on] or compliment the GM that's in OKC -- I really believe he's done a phenomenal job. And you guys spin that to me saying that Rob is not doing a great job," James said. "And if I say the GM from the Rams: I loved his f---ing T-shirt. I thought it was dope. And I believe the same way. I don't care about picks; I care about winning championships. Well, how is that directed at Rob and the Lakers franchise? Rob has done the same thing. He went and got AD. He didn't care about picks as well, obviously."
James said the Lakers' disappointing season -- Friday's loss dropped them to 27-32 -- has been at the root of much of the speculation about his future.
He said injuries have sabotaged the chance for him, Davis and Russell Westbrook to build any sort of cohesion in the hopes of becoming a contender. Los Angeles is 11-9 in the 20 games those three have been in the lineup together this season.
"I do wish that we were just playing better basketball and between me, AD and Russ on the floor at the same time," James said. "That's the biggest disappointment so far, that us three, because we all wanted to see this work. We just haven't been on the floor."
James is the No. 3 scorer in league history and has four championships, four Finals MVPs and four regular-season MVPs in his storied career. He remains focused on adding as many titles to his résumé as he can before he retires.

And he said the Lakers have given him, and continue to give him, an opportunity to accomplish that, adding that he is "very confident" in the team's front office.

"They've done it. They've shown me that," James said. "Ever since I got here, the front office of Jeanie [Buss], Linda [Rambis], Kurt [Rambis], everybody has welcomed me with open arms and has given me an opportunity to play for a historical franchise and welcomed my family in. And I just try to give back my part of the game and inspire kids and inspire people that want to follow the Lakers and put them back at a level that they're accustomed to being. And that's always been my focus."

Earlier Friday, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski that Paul met with the Lakers' front office Tuesday and had a positive, clear-the-air type of session to get the sides back in sync in the aftermath of James' public comments.
Asked about the meeting, James said, "I think it's important that it always stays transparent between us and we don't really care about the outside noise. I mean, I think a lot of people are, to be honest, just jealous of the relationship that Rich has with the front office and with this team and with the relationship that I have, that I've grown over the last four years. I mean, that's what I think it boils down to."

Damn they made Lebron fallback. Suprised he would acquiesce to this poorly run team, that he brought a Championship too. Oh well players are always beholden to the owners I guess. Id rather they buy him out and he can play for a wimner his last two years.

I find it interesting how Laker fans didn't "want" Lebron initially
which ALWAYS seemed insane
then forget how he was the REASON they got Anthony Davis
and ALSO helped create that team that won in the bubble
brought them a championship
played injured
after ALL that
they still kept saying well he aint a REAL LAKER
Its Kobe team still
even though Lebron and Kobe were very very close
but the minute there are rumors he may leave?
they MAD?
WTF?!

If they’re not good enough for the playoffs then they don’t deserve to be in them.

Injuries, bad trades and bad coaching. It happens :dunno:

Now why do a Lakers haters have to change their panties because they blew their loads because the Lakers might not make the playoffs is questionable.
Not a hater just find it hard to believe that this might happen; some things don't make sense and this is one of them :smh:

Ehh....the Numbers here are misrepresented. This is like the 3rd straight year that folks with Xfinity/Comcast in Colorado CANNOT watch Nuggets games due to a bullshit dispute between Altitude TV and Xfinity. Xfinity makes up probably more than half of the households in Colorado. So there's a big chunk of local viewers who have to illegally stream Nuggets games just to watch them. I was one of them before I moved to Florida. Again this has been ongoing for the last 3 years maybe longer. Pathetic.

Stan Van Gundy blasts Knicks’ ‘arrogance’ as Zion Williamson rumors swirl

Stan Van Gundy views the Zion Williamson-to-New York rumors as just another example of the Knicks’ “arrogance,” taking a rhetorical torch to the idea on “The Dan Le Batard Show.”
“It’s possible,” said Van Gundy, the last person to coach Williamson in an NBA game. “But listen. The Knicks have this thing and it’s amazing. No matter how many times people have proven they don’t want to play for the Knicks, the Knicks have this idea that everybody in the league wants to play for the Knicks. Now what is the last time it actually happened that somebody came and tried to get their way to New York? Like, never in the last 20 years?
“But still the Knicks and Knicks fans think everybody is trying to get to the Knicks. I’m not saying [Zion] won’t end up there — there’s all kinds of ways people can end up somewhere — but this idea that everybody wants to be a New York Knick, I mean if that were the case, then they wouldn’t be as bad as they’ve been for the last 20 years.”
The rumor has been sparked after Williamson, who continues to rehab an injury, was described as “detached” by JJ Redick, a former teammate in New Orleans. The Knicks tanked for Williamson when he was a prospect at Duke, but came up short in the lottery.

Upon getting drafted by the Pelicans, the 21-year-old expressed admiration for the city of New Orleans, but he’s played just 85 games in three years and questions surrounding his fitness continue to swirl.

Whether Williamson would be the player he’s advertised as should the Knicks manage to acquire him is an open question. Along the same line, it’s also worth wondering whether the forward is worth a max extension, which he’s eligible for this summer.
“No one yet has passed on signing the extension,” Van Gundy said. “No one yet. It’s too lucrative. So he’s first got to sign. And then it normally takes a year or two before people are forcing themselves somewhere else. So I think we’re a little premature on all of this.
“And I don’t know what the Knicks would have that New Orleans would jump at right now. I just don’t. Who would they want? Evan Fournier?”
The idea of Donovan Mitchell going to New York — another longtime rumor that’s never come to fruition — also drew Van Gundy’s ire.
“The Knicks’ arrogance as an organization has astounded me the entire time I’ve been in the league,” Van Gundy said. “You would think this is a perennial champion, this great organization that everyone wants to play for. Please. C’mon. Can we stop it? Just because the Knicks fans want a player doesn’t mean everyone is trying to get there.”

Oh he gone

and I do not want to hear any Pelicans fans crying or bashing him on the way out either.

We didn't cry or bash Anthony Davis on the way out. ESPN spun that shit

But it should be noted that Mardi Gras has a very racially charged history, in 2022 people have already reported that they've caught beads with confederate symbols and other racist imagery.

The name of this krewe is called the "Krewe of Chaos" which is a 225 member krewe that is all white and all male and was born out of a Krewe that stopped parading in 1992 after it was told to integrate. This krewe has also gone after Black politicians and Colin Kaepernick.

This is not coming from a modern, integrated Krewe or a Black Krewe and the comments on Twitter from New Orleans residents have ripped them to shreds.

Read the comments

(Then again, what the hell, this is the NBA thread, niggas don't read)

Doesn't injuries, bad trades and bad coaching seem to the norm in Laker land though? Aside from the championships run its been some bad product on and off the court. I'm shocked Lebron going out like this but its really AD broken down ass fucking the plan up.
