The History of Butter Pecan Ice Cream, a true story.
I just saw a post that asked: “Who is keeping butter pecan ice cream in business?” And I thought it might be a good time for a Black History lesson ….. especially in remembrance and honor of Juneteenth.
Butter pecan ice cream was invented because Black people were denied vanilla ice cream (except with a special coupon only to be used on July 4th because, it was seen as “pure” and for White people only, during the time of slavery and the Jim Crow segregation era. Now if that ain't some evil hatred, I don't know what is?! If I was that kind of White person, I'd be trying rewrite History and ban books too

Ok....back to spilling some Black History Tea... You see, Black people were limited to only be able to purchase and eat chocolate ice cream throughout the year. Mind you, it was a young Slave by the name of Edmund Albius who revolutionized the cultivation of vanilla to be used in the ice cream in the first place. So what did Black people do? We added pecans, and butter to the vanilla ice cream so that they would have a variety and it was no longer “pure white”. Are we not an innovative bunch of people? Just another reason why some of "them" be hating on us and thus the love affair of Black people and butter pecan ice cream.
So in honor of Juneteenth and during this long hot summer and even throughout the year, make sure you add butter pecan ice cream to your grocery list, as well as your red velvet cake (the red color is symbolic to the blood shed of those who lost their lives while enslaved)
