Anyone besides me find it funny that Microsoft is not the winner in this battle of commercials.. they are a software company and they are pumping up HP vs Mac, not Microsoft vs Mac. But you Windoze freaks can't even see that...

Actually they are pumping up the carriers of their software. So they are pumping themselves as well. Do yopu really think Microsoft cares if its Acer, or HP or Dell? Nope cause they all carry Windows.

yea they care.. that's why they are making commercials. In any case.. its HP, Dell, Acer vs Mac. Why no Windows vs OS X commercial? Is it because they will FAIL?

C/S, they're getting paid either way so what do they give a fuck as long as the person buys a PC. Hell, HP is probably giving MS a kick back for even putting there ass in the commercial.

Because it doesn't matter to the average buyer. They don't view it as OS X and Macbooks. They just view it as Apple. You have to remember the average laptop buyer doesn't get into the whole OS X vs Vista or XP issue. No all they want is a laptop that is easy to use and is cost efficient. Right now because of the business model that tends to go to Windows when you look at the overall costs.

Microsoft is doing the right thing. they see the issues that people care about because of the recession and they're advertising to tap into it. Its obvious that its working because of the amount of threads on here concerning it.

Oh and one last thing. Don't laugh too much at Microsoft. When you run ads that tend to help a business partner and that partner is named in that ads many times the partner is covering part of the cost. Its called co-op ads and its a great way to buy a really large media buy without breaking your budget. I know that Dell just had MAJOR cuts to their advertising budget so I'm sure they jumped on the change to be a part of this. I wouldn't be surprised if we see some of the later commercials showcase Dell products.

I guess you have to be smart to see irony in it. Microsoft is software company... making commercials about how cheap the hardware is from HP, Dell, Acer etc. Why no commercials comparing Windows to OS X?

Once again see what I said. 95% of the country could care less about OS X. Thats for hard core computer people, not the average user that just wants a good computer for the money.

I think you're having a hard time grasping this cause you're too close to it.

Are you sure they are doing the right thing? People who buy Macs buy them because they want a Mac. The PC industry has always enjoyed the market share and have always been cheaper. Advertising is strategic.. i.e. Apple targeted Windows poor performance and lack of cool factor (which is why people tend to switch to Mac). What is Microsoft targeting.. arent they targeting people who they already have in their corner? Wasted advertising? Or do they feel they are in jeopardy of losing some of the market share they previously enjoyed?

I think its you who has a closed mind... youre not thinking critically...

I guess Microsoft wins again, since like you stated in your title. Microsoft PC vs Mac commercials! Microsoft PC, is also any Macbook, iMac, and any other Mac, PC, that now has Intel chips that are the exact same chips & GPUs used in everything, which also use the Windows OS, regardless if its Virtual Machine, BootCamp, etc. So even the Apple users that say they just run Windows on top of their OSX Macs, because of whatever reason, is because they need Windows for a reason, whether its an app, game, office, whatever, they still have Microsoft somewhere on everything some kind of way. Smart move by Microsoft again.

lol, I think the "smart" ones do see what MS is doing, and how it makes PERFECT sense for them, it's the "fanboys", for apple, that get their panites in a wad over some truth, apple is a brand that people pay for, the same hardware that a mac has, that a pc laptop also has, cost's much, much more, and NO, not due to OS/X, but the name... Everything apple sells is marked up BIGTIME, all hardware they sell could be had less on a pc, with more power to boot... I work with mac laptops, and like them, but would NEVER pay for one, when I could get more bang for the buck, via a pc laptop... Smart people "do know better"....

Why do that, when they still want Mac users to use Bootcamp & VM to still put Windows on their Intel Macs? Would be crazy for MS to shoot themselves in the foot that way.

Microsoft is not a fan of Virtualization (unless of course if its running on their proprietary virtual server). matter of fact, they wont support the product if its running in a virtual environment. Also, those who tend to run a virtual instance of Windows on a Mac dont pay for the product.

But If Mac Is So Superior, Why Do They Have Such Brazen Over Kill On Their Commercial, That Seems Like A Dead Give Away. If I'm In A Superior Position (Supposedly Mac), I'm Not Comparing Myself To A Lesser Brand (Supposedly Ms), I'll Compare Myself To Myself!!!!

divine you care to list the advantages of a osx over windows? I havent caught a virus since 98 so please not the old virus excuse

No I think strategically because I work in advertising. The person who buys Apple falls into a very specific psychographic (not demographic). That person is willing to pay extra because the thought of belonging to an "exclusive" group appeals to them.

Microsoft is targeting people who want a working computer. If its people that already have a computer thats ok, because they will eventually buy a new one. If no one replaced their products we would all have our original cars, clothes, etc. So be reinforcing the fact that if you're looking for a new computer you can get a Windows product for cheaper than an Apple, especially during a recession, is a good strategic move.

As for advertising. Smart companies never stop advertising even if they're #1 or even if we're in a recession. Coke is the #1 beverage company and is known worldwide. Yet they still drop close to $300 million on advertising every year.

If you want I can direct you to a few case histories of what happens to companies when they stop adverting even if they're the #1 company. Out of sight is out of mind.

Actually here you go:

And you think PC users pay for the product? Let me say PC builders. Microsoft, of course will say their not a fan of Virtualization, but why wouldn't they want their products on every kind of system? If it has to be through VM/BootCamp, they are not about to write any drivers to block any type of Virtualization programs. They want all users, whether it be Macs or any PC, to have their products on it, some kind of way.

MAC is bullshit, you can get a PC with 7 times as much memory and features for 1/4th the cost of a fucking MAC. Faggots buy the name not the product.

Dude you really need to fuck off with the 4th grade argument. Do some financial research. Microsoft is Walmart of the computer industry....They're everywhere while others are only in certain places.

and while you're doing your financial research be sure you understand the gross & net profits from Apple computer line vs Apple iPod, iPhone, etc etc. If it wasn't for the "i" products they would have filed bankruptcy years ago.

I'ma break it down in a way that's really digestible for you. Let's just imagine for a minute that I am a Wholesaler who sold chicken to El Pollo Loco and Churches ok? Wouldn't it make sense for me to make advertisements stating how great those two companies chicken was seeing that the more customers they get the more chicken they have to buy from me? This isn't really rocket science here kid. More computers sold by HP, Dell, and etc. equals more Windows licenses they have to buy from Microsoft. In addition, Microsoft continues to brand Windows and inform the public on which Operating System runs on 94% of the Computers in the World. This is a Win/Win (No Pun Intended) for Microsoft no matter how you try to spin it,

Hey D and E.S.N., what y'all think about Alienware? I've never seen anyone with those laptops. Shit looks pretty sick.

I will still roll with my MBP, but if I was to get a PC it would be one of those.

I don't really like Alienware because of the designs; they're ugly! For Laptops I'll only go Sony, Toshiba, HP, and Apple and for Desktops I go custom built all the way. When you build a machine from the ground up you not only spend less money but you get the most for it too. In addition, you have more control so you can piece together parts you know will work great together.

Yes, they have good gaming laptops. The only problem I ever had with Alienware, was when they stop being a custom boutique builder. But it was a great move for them to become more mainstream, it helped them to survive much longer and become a household name. In the past only hardcore users knew about them. Voodoo ended up doing the same thing when it got absorbed by HP. Voodoo used to have a much larger lineup, but it has been sort of streamlined for now. Guess it depends what you will be using the system for, will determine which one I will go with. Top end Alienware, comes with a 1TB inside!

I also, agree with D, with the Alienware designs have now gotten boring. They've been carrying the same designs since the beginning.

Thank you both for your responses. I checked out the top end Alienware notebook with the 1 TB and that shit runs for a little over $4,000! That smart bay is a cool concept to store more shit in.

Yeah, their designs are kinda weak and not very sleek at all, but I compared the Voodoo Envy 133 to the Area 51 without the crazy HD space and a few other option specs and it was considerably cheaper. Still around $2,000 though.

However, the Voodoo Envy is what I would say a PC laptop should be. Is very sleek, comes with some power, and has a shit load of options for upgrades. But like yall said, do the upgrades yourself and save money.

I swear, one of these days I'm making my own "Hackintosh". That shit is going to be laid out.:yes:

Oh and E.N.S., I used to be a big AMD Athlon fan, but that shit hurt me when I caught a crazy virus and it crippled my computer. Funny thing was that I used to update my software like crazy and I loved how fast my processor was, but I decided to try Apple and have been satisfied ever since.

But like I said, when I get an opportunity I'm gonna build my own shit that's gonna be off the chain...

Let me break it down for you.. Microsft is touting HP, Dell etc vs Apple because they know their WIndows products sucks.. they are a software company.. but REFUSE to put up their Windows against OS X. Microsoft is a software company and their software sucks.

BTW - Alienware = Dell!

That would be poor marketing because most people really don't care or wont to know what an operating system is

Guru Sees Another Failure

According to brand guru Rob Frankel, the ad is typical of Microsoft's weak, misdirected efforts. He predicts it will fail miserably.
"Microsoft has no brand strategy. Never did. They have an identity, but no brand strategy. As a result, Microsoft is never proactive, but always reactive to its competition," insisted Frankel, author of The Revenge of Brand X. "The main beneficiary? Apple, which gets tons of extra media exposure because they're Microsoft's main target."

Frankel said attacking Mac's "higher cost" will fail because it's a misdirected message. As he sees it, Microsoft is making a poor bet that a short-term recession strategy will connect with price-conscious consumers.

"For one thing, most shoppers now know that by the time they add in all the built-in Mac components to a PC, the costs are close. Macs are also retained longer and replaced less often than PCs. And then there's the reliability and repair cost issues," Frankel said. "Another failure, big time, for Microsoft."
