I just saw this PBS Independent Lens episode about Ernest Withers.
For his life's work, Withers was elected to the Black Press Hall of Fame and received an honorary doctorate from the Massachusetts College of Art.
Withers and his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Curry, raised eight children.
The FBI had him snitchin'! WHY??
Was it the 8 kids & his woman (never said it was his wife) that had him in such need?

"The Picture Taker” - The life of photographer and FBI informant, whose nearly two million images came to illustrate America’s civil rights stories.
But there was a hidden story behind Withers’s iconic photographs that emerged only after his death, when the Memphis Commercial Appeal revealed that Withers had all along worked as an FBI informant, reporting back to the agency about the same activists he photographed.
BTW - I put the Independent Lens episode on the shelf next to the basement stairs if you want to peep it...
The book "Bluff City" written about him:

He was there for nearly ALL of the major civil rights, music and other major/minor events.
He took the picture of Emmit Till's uncle pointing to identify one of the killers at the trial.
