Avengers: Infinity War co-writers Stephen McFeely and Chris Markus dropped by Kevin Smith’s Fat Man on Batman podcast last night, where they discussed, among other topics, the status of Avengers 4. The film, which will be released on May 3, 2019, is shrouded in mystery — most of what we know is who won’t be back (Heimdall) and who will be (most of the characters from Infinity War, plus Captain Marvel and Hawkeye) — but progress has been made.

“Status of Avengers 4 is that we shot it, but it’s not due for a while,” McFeely said. “There’s time for reshoots and fixing and we’re just scrubbing through it now. The Russo brothers have been in there for a few weeks now after the press tour and all that. And the whole team is getting together tomorrow.” Filming is only half the battle — now comes the reshoots and time-consuming post-production details, like making sure Thanos is the right shade of purple.

“It’s disheartening to come off of the one that’s all done and made $2 billion,” Markus told Smith, “and get in the room that’s just full of part, you know? And it’s just like, oh shit, it’s not done.” The Clerks director also asked the writers how they would “fix the DC Universe.” (Only one movie, Wonder Woman, in the DCEU has a Rotten Tomatoes score over 60 percent — the “worst” movie in the MCU is Thor: The Dark World… with a 66 percent “Fresh” rating.)

“I mean, I would look at what Marvel did out of necessity, in that they didn’t have their A-list characters,” Markus said. “They didn’t have Spider-Man. They didn’t have the X-Men. They went down a line and found a, I mean, he’s pretty f*cking famous, he’s Iron Man, but he wasn’t there, and they made a really good movie out of it… I might put Batman and Superman and everybody else, I mean Wonder Woman is doing fine, aside for a second. Go through the vast world and go, ‘That guy’ or ‘That girl,’ and go, ‘Let’s just make a really good movie and not a universe and see what happens.’ There’s a lot of spaghetti being thrown at the wall.” (Via)

It’s not a bad strategy: that guy… that girl… that Aquaman?

Exact same thing I said in one of these threads last year. Fuck Supes and Bats and just take some other characters and make great movies. Start right there and then connect em. These mufuckas tryin to put the cart in front of the horse.

If Marvel didn't exist what DC is doing would be fine.

But that's the problem. Marvel changed the game and DC figures they can just rest on name recognition alone and people will run out the way do for Marvel flics. Not happening. ESPECIALLY after that clusterfuck of BVS.

Now they go and get Ava Duvernay to make a fuckin Big Barda New Gods movie. Mufuckas is CLUELESS.

They got a million fuckin characters...allready developed and waiting. Just make some good movies.

Metamorpho
Blue Beetle
Captain Atom
Flash
Green Lantern
Metal Men
Plastic Man
Atom
Green Arrow
Animal Man
Power Girl
Legion Of Superheroes
Teen Titans
Martian Manhunter
The Ray
and on and on for ever

Not to mention the bunch of Batman-related films they planning(TWO Joker films,Suicide Squad 2,Birds of Prey,Harley Quinn solo film,Gotham City Sirens)..no wonder Affleck dipped(and Henry Cavill getting ready to as well since we'll never see Man of Steel 2)

Even the television versions of some of those characters are developed better..now that the DC Universe streaming channel is starting up soon we could see them on there(they already planning a Doom Patrol series)

Kevin Smith Denies Rumors He's Directing a Marvel/Star Wars Movie

Clerks director and comic book nerd Kevin Smith has shut down recent rumors that he's set to direct a Marvel or Star Wars movie for Disney. It's been a tough week for Smith, whose TV show Comic Book Men was canceled by AMC after seven seasons and 96 episodes, but unfortunately for fans of the director, he's not moving on to direct one of Disney's mega-blockbusters.

The rumors of Smith directing a Marvel or Star Wars movie came from FandomWire, who reported several days ago that Smith had met with Disney for a potential project. The original rumor didn't claim with any certainty that the project was Marvel/Star Wars; rather, it said that "It’s very possible that Smith will be taking on a Marvel or Star Wars project," but cautioned that "That’s all speculation at this point."

While it's still possible that Smith has met with Disney for some kind of secret potential project, that project definitely wasn't a Star Wars movie or a Marvel movie. A fan reached out to Smith on Twitter to ask if he was really set to work on one of Disney's two biggest live-action franchises, and Smith responded that it was "easy to deny":

It wasn't entirely implausible that Smith would be called upon to direct a comic book movie, since he's already directed several episodes of CW shows Supergirl and The Flash. On the movie side of things, however, Smith has mainly leaned towards R-rated comedies and, more recently, unabashedly weird horror-comedy films Tusk and Yoga Hosers. During a recent episode of his Fatman on Batman podcast, Smith revealed that he'd found funding for the final movie in his True North trilogy, Moose Jaws, which is described as "Jaws with a moose." While it's funny to think of Disney deciding to invest in Moose Jaws, this probably wasn't what Smith's meeting with the studio was about - if it happened at all.

The original rumor didn't claim that Smith's meeting was definitely about a Marvel or Star Wars movie, so his denial of that aspect doesn't rule out the possibility that the rumor was accurate. However, given the kind of movies that Smith makes, it's hard to imagine what kind of secret project Disney would want him to direct. Until we hear more about it from official sources, we're chalking this one up to the rumor mill simply churning out bad information, as it so often does.

I've said it from day one in numerous threads - Supes and Bats are fucking icons. EVERYBODY knows who they are and where they came from. The Reeve Supes was good because of the humor and the acting. The Nolan Bats was dark af; and the acting. The current Bats n Supes has neither of those so what exactly are they going to bring to the characters to make people give af?

So, by necessity the should have gone to b or c list characters. Oh, wait, they did. Poorly.

Really at this point I could care less about DC until they put out something that makes everybody say: "wow!" Then I may go see it. Maybe. I already got fooled by WW which everybody seemed to like but I thought was boring as hell.

SECOND-QUARTER BOX OFFICE PROFITS REACH RECORD HIGH (AND SO DO THE TICKET PRICES)

Business at the box office is booming …and so are ticket prices, according to the latest second-quarter figures from the National Association of Theater Owners.

NATO reveals (via Deadline) that blockbusters like Avengers: Infinity War — which arrived earlier than normal in April — helped give a 23 percent leap in year-over-year box office revenue, meaning that the first half of 2018 is almost 10 percent ahead of last year.

The total box office haul for the April/May/June second quarter period ended up reaching a record $3.335 billion (with the first half of the year having now reached $6.189 billion.)

As well as the almightly Marvel mash-up, it's safe to say genre movies such as Deadpool 2 ($310 million), Incredibles 2 ($440 million), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom ($265 million) and even Solo: A Star Wars Story ($207 million) have all been responsible for the record-breaking second quarter.

And although there was a 3 percent decline in the first quarter, the February-released Black Panther still currently holds the title of the highest-grossing North American movie of the year with $699.9 million.

With box office receipts sky-high, perhaps it’s somewhat unsurprising that stub ticket prices have risen too.

Last year, the average ticket price rose to an all-time high of $9.18 towards the end of year. Now, NATO adds (via Variety) that average ticket prices in North America have risen to $9.38, a 22 percent uprise from 2018's first quarter average of $9.16 and 43 cents more compared to the prices from the same period last year.

Although if you're in either Los Angeles or New York, you may feel slightly cheated, as ticket prices are (in some case) already considerably higher than $10 a pop. In any case, we'd say it’s all the more reason to go get yourself a MoviePass or join AMC's A-List while you still can.
