Former NFL wide receiver Terrell Owens is $20,000 in arrears in his child support payments to the Atlanta mother of one of his children, and she wants him fined or jailed if he doesn’t pay up, according to a new petition her attorney filed Friday.

The Fulton County contempt of court petition, the latest of several filed in the past year by Melanie Paige Smith, says Owens owes $5,000 for each of the months of December, January, February and March. A Fulton County judge ordered the payments for the support of the couple’s daughter in March 2007.

“He has not indicated if he ever plans to send another penny for their daughter,” Smith’s attorney, Randall Kessler, said in a letter to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“We plan to ask the court to send a strong message, given that he has only paid support in the last 10 months after a contempt action has been filed against him,” Kessler said.

Efforts were being made late Friday to reach Owens for comment. He now plays for the Dallas, Texas-area Allen Wranglers in the Indoor Football League.

Last summer, Owens, popularly known as T.O., blamed the NFL lockout on his inability to make the $5,000 monthly payments to Smith and asked a judge to lower them to $2,500. The request was denied. He caught up with his payments and appeared to have continued them through November.

Owens, a six-time Pro Bowler but controversial player known for creating firestorms on and off the field, has played for the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals, which did not renew his $2 million, one-year contract last year.

Owens now plays in the Indoor Football League as wide receiver and 50-percent owner of the Allen Wranglers. According to Dallas media reports, Owens' deal with the Wranglers could compensate him up to $500,000 this season. The league’s 14-game season began on Feb. 25.

Smith is one of several women seeking child support for the former NFL wide receiver. According to a January GQ article, Owens pays $44,600 a month in child support for his four children, ages 5 to 12. Three of the four mothers have sued him.

In that same article, Owens bemoaned his child support troubles.

“It's just a shame that those women don't want to work and do something to help support my kids," he told GQ.

At least one of those mothers, Smith, is determined to get what a Fulton County judge has ordered Owens to pay.

In addition to legal fees, the contempt petition filed Friday asks the court to impose a fine or jail time.

“We remain hopeful that he will choose to resume supporting his daughter, but neither we nor our client have had any indication from him since last year as to when and if he will ever provide another penny in support,” Kessler said.

Terrell Owens may have not garnered much attention from NFL teams back in October with his own personal workout, but he certainly turned a few heads on Saturday night during his Indoor Football League debut with the Allen Wranglers.

After a year away from the game, the six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver made quite a first impression with his new team. He scored three touchdowns on three catches -- all in the first half -- and finished with 53 yards as the Wranglers beat the Wichita Wild 50-30.

"I thought I did all right. I think we should have had more points on the board," Owens said after the game. "From an overall team standpoint, we had too many penalties and obviously we have to do better in that department offensively and defensively."

Not only did the 38-year-old shine in his debut, but he also drew what Wranglers owner Jon Frankel said was a larger home attendance than the entire 2011 season.

Was this the start of his path back to the National Football League? Owens, who will just play in the Wranglers home games, said earlier this month that he has not retired from the NFL and still plans on playing a couple more years.

Owens missed the entire 2011 season after undergoing surgery in April on a torn ACL. He was set to return in the middle of the season, but no team was willing to sign him.

Owens recently revealed to GQ for their February issue that he is friendless and nearly broke, having squandered the bulk of the $80 million he earned during his NFL career.

He bought this on himself.....being a shitty teammate and having a me first attitude isn't going to garner anyone feeling sorry for his ass....I believe w/ the state of mind he's in he might try to kill himself again

He not a bad teammate though. Where do you guys get this from?

Okay... dude made the mistake of making kids so I don't understand why he is not going back to the courts to get the payments reduced. Adjustments is what people do in life.

He's a TERRIBLE teammate based on hat fact of what he did in San Fran and Philly... Now, I'm sure there's guys who will go to bat for T.O.... And that's cool... BUT talking shit to the media about Jeff Garcia and McNabb the way he did makes him a BAD teammates... Because it doesn't build camaraderie amongst your teammates... Now, I'll give him a pass ON the San Fran. situation but in PHILLY... :smh: That was some STR8 DIVA shit... :smh:

I feel bad for dude... looking at that video, this is the equivalent of starring in the NBA, and then being named YMCA MVP of the 35 and over league... :smh:

You know he didn't say that about Garcia until after he was traded right??

he got into confrontations with the qb accusing him of not throwing the ball to him enough and that he only threw it to Jason Witten

No, TO Roy & Crayton went to Garrett to complain about the plays & how Romo throws to Witten after he threw those pick 6s against Pittsburgh. Romo's boy that was an assistant went & told Werder...he was fired after the season.

so getting him locked does what??? you mos def aint getting the money. I think that solution is azz backwards. He aint pay now, but lock him up expecting what to happen?!

Here's the thing... T.O. learned the game at the side of THE GREATEST FOOTBALL PLAYER EVER... He's seen examples of being HUMBLE and GREAT at the same time... Personally, I believe T.O. can STILL PLAY in the NFL... but he's tarnished his reputation AND his Diva attitude contributed to his money problems... Now, I KNOW T.O. isn't destitute and down and out...BUT ultimately, his FUCKED UP ATTITUDE cost him more money than not... :smh:

Teammates get into it all the time. T.O. is being crucified for little shit. It's really the media that gave people that "troublemaker" perception of T.O...I kinda feel sorry for the man because folks actually buy it. Think of all the ways the media influences how you think, especially when it comes to sports. They have the power to make villains(Heat) as well as heroes(Lin).

Don't know if TO was a poor quality teammate but he def has poor character. This is the fruit of all that arrogance and sense of entitlement. Whatsoever a man sows TO!! :smh:

I don't understand why he didn't use condoms. He had to know those women were after his finances. Shit what a big dummy. His payments should be lowered since he is making less but the thing is you have to pay your back pay first. Dude needs to hop on something like px90 or the Foremen.
