The Atlanta Police Department needs help identifying two individuals accused of stealing a Grady Memorial Hospital transport van and taking it on a joyride.

Police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle at 3500 Martin Luther King Jr. on Jan. 23.

The driver, Francis Phillips, said he parked his 2014 Chevy Express Van in the parking lot of a Family Dollar with the keys in the vehicle and went inside the store.

Police say that’s when two men jumped into the non-emergency vehicle and took off.

"For them, it's a means of entertainment. They used the vehicle for a joyride for a couple of hours,” said Atlanta police Sgt. Warren Pickard.

What they most likely didn’t know is that dash cameras inside the van captured the whole thing.

"The good thing about the Grady bus is it has two cameras. One is recording the interior, so you can see the driver and passenger in the vehicle as well as the route they are travelling,” Pickard said.

The suspect drove the van to Delmar Lane and made a left on Hemphill School Rd NW.

Police say the suspects, who appear to be teens, took a long drive and appeared to smoke marijuana while they were inside the van.

The van was recovered a few hours after the theft, according to police.

A Grady Memorial Hospital spokesperson says they’re still investigating the incident and there has been no decision on any disciplinary action for the driver.

Any information on the case can be submitted anonymously to the Crime Stoppers Atlanta tip line at 404-577-TIPS (8477), online www.crimestoppersatlanta.orgor by texting CSA and the tip to CRIMES (274637).
