WASHINGTON PARK, Il (KMOV.com) – A teenage girl who was allegedly held prisoner in a Metro East home for three years has escaped her captors with the help of a relative.
The unidentified victim says she was repeatedly beaten and raped while in captivity. The sexual assault led to a pregnancy. Following her escape, she showed up at the police department and told them her story.
Police returned to the home today, located in the 1400 block of Kingshighway, to make arrests and retrieve the baby boy the victim gave birth to.
News 4 was on the scene as more than two dozen officers with heavy-duty fire power swept in and got the boy.
Our cameras were there as an officer carried the child to a waiting ambulance. Meanwhile, the man neighbors identified as the father, who is accused of holding the teenager captive, sat handcuffed on the ground a few feet away.
Several people told us the man is known around the neighborhood by his street name, “psycho.”
Next-door neighbors say they never suspected a thing.
"They seemed like a pleasant family to me," said neighbor Connie Hunt. "She would talk to me, I would talk to her."
Police led the suspect’s mother away in handcuffs as well. They say the mother and suspect forced the teenage victim to lie about her name to cover up her real identity when she gave birth.
The victim told police when she did manage to get out of the house previously, the suspect would catch her and force her back at gunpoint.
