As reported several days ago on BoxingScene.com, the promotional team of WBO middleweight champion Dmitry Pirog have extended a very lucrative offer to Sergio Martinez, the WBC's Diamond champion, for a showdown in Russia in early 2012. According to Team Pirog, the offer was more than Martinez had ever earned in any of previous bouts.

Despite the high offer, the fight is no closer to being a reality. Members of Pirog's team are stating that Martinez's promoter, Lou DiBella, made a counter-demand, with a request for no less than $5 million dollars. Pirog's team members are calling DiBella's demand "unrealistic."

Five mil is a lot for a fighter who has never sold one PPV unit. I like Sergio but damn, just make the fight instead of constantly calling out these smaller guys. If he looks great against Pirog I'm sure it would open doors for him, but upstairs though, around 165 pounds. Because if he puts it on Pirog and takes him out, the guys at 147-154 are gonna wanna fight him even less than before. I can see him and Bute at 164-165 making some big bank in Montreal.

C/S....no one from 160 down would take a risk against Sergio

too much risk little reward especially when it comes down to purse....instead of Bute I always wanted to see him at a possible catchweight against Ward....

I like Ward but I really don't look forward to his fights. He reminds me of an early Hopkins. Dude is mad frustrating to watch at times.

Hopkins Lite

his style would be interesting against Martinez

I think he'd manhandle Sergio. Bute has enough defensive lapses and one punch power to make it an exciting fight. I don't see Sergio having much of a shot against Ward.

what you think about Bute Vs Johnson?

I was really upset after Pascal lost his strap to X the fight between Pascal & Bute may never happen I also think that they can make an exciting fight...

It probably would be a good fight. I like Pascal, but I think you'll see a rematch between him and Dawson before anything, whether Dawson wins or loses. Hell maybe B-Hop has found a second home up there in Canada, him vs Bute could do really well.

Johnson's best days are behind him. But if that swarming style of his fucks Bute up, he might have a slim chance. I don't see it though.
