T-Mobile’s next move could be devastating for AT&T and Verizon

T-Mobile CEO John Legere hinted that his company was about to make another big splash in the wireless industry and if this report from TmoNews is accurate then he wasn’t kidding. An unnamed source tells TmoNews that T-Mobile is planning an initiative that would pay off subscribers’ early termination fees if they switch from a rival carrier to T-Mobile. Specifically the source said that the company is planning “a project codenamed ‘Houdini’ which will give switchers up to $350 in credit when they switch to TMO” with a particular emphasis placed “on families switching up to 5 lines regardless of contract end dates.”

Paying off customers’ early termination fees would destroy a huge barrier to wireless subscribers switching to T-Mobile. It would also go a long way toward killing off the two-year service agreements that T-Mobile scrapped as part of its first “uncarrier” initiative. T-Mobile has become a major annoyance for incumbent carriers and earlier this year it also made moves to give customers the option of upgrading their smartphones earlier and to offer free international data roaming.

T-Mobile plans to announce its next major “uncarrier” plan on January 8th at the Consumer Electronics Show so we won’t have to wait much longer to learn just what Legere and crew have up their sleeves.

$350 at $50 a month will give you the first 7 months free.

Dishnetwork is trying to buy them... So is sprint.

I may have to find someone with Tmobile and tell them to come to the crib to see if their service in this area has improved at all. When I had them a few years ago I had to leave because when I left my house i'd get notifications for about 10 minutes straight from all the calls/texts/emails etc i'd get from not having service inside.

Man, at this point, anything better than this tiered shit on Verizon.

I feel that Verizon be raping the shit out of me when I go over the got me for $90 last month I had to up my data

TM used to let me get a new phone every 6 months...Verizon talking about 2 years lol..why the fuck did I switch:smh:

I just switched to them too to get my Nexus 5 up. T-Mobile is making the right moves right now.

I used about 15GB when traveling for work last month.. no throttling. I have unlimited data and unlimited tethering

There are multiple threads on Tmobile throttling and its the reason I left them after 10 years...unless something changed since I left T mobile does throttle

They changed their plans a bit just before the summer. I bet you won't find as many threads about unlimited throttling since May/June. Most don't know that even if you have unlimited data, you still have to add unlimited tethering for $10

Just checked my account.. I actually used 19.14GB, "high-speed" service at the hotel I was staying in was terrible.

I used to work in the wireless industry in corporate for att. this shit is mad illegal. companies would get fined for shit like this back in the day.

now unless some law has changed this shit is not happening.

I just checked the website and even there it says they will slow your speed after 5gb but if they don't fuck with you props...they didnt fuck with me till I hit 8gb

That Jump shit is off the hook!

I spidered my S3 grabbed it off the counter it fell flat on the floor

I was leaving for vegas the next day so I hit the Tmo sto and I had insurance but thats bullshit ($150 deductible:angry:) for $50 and taxes I got the S4 and can go get the next best thing every 4 months. I thought about the note 3 but that wouldve been $100:smh:

That doesn't make any sense because they offer 5GB, 10GB and unlimited data tier plans. This is what the support site says..

Data features and MI / MBB plans launched on or after March 24, 2013
Data speed is reduced to (at most) 128 kbps when data usage exceeds the Data Speed Reduction Threshold for data features, MI / MBB, and data-only plans.

Any T-Mobile Web feature uses data speed reduction. Mobile Web Pay Per Use (PPU) also uses data speed reduction.
Exception: Unlimited Nationwide 4G data does not have data speed reduction or caps.

- The data speed reduction threshold varies and depends on the plan or feature.
- A free text message is sent when the Data Speed Reduction Threshold is reached and then data speed is reduced.
- You must wait until the following billing cycle to return to full speed data access unless you upgrade to a higher data plan. Contact Customer Service to assist with this upgrade to ensure speed reduction is removed. You can also change your plan or feature via My T-Mobile.

Example Scenario:
Your speed is reduced when you reach 5GB of usage.
You contact Customer Service upgrade to a 10GB plan or Unlimited Nationwide 4G data.
Your speed is no longer reduced and you have an additional 5GB or Unlimited to use for the billing cycle.

not a bad move....AT&T, sprint and verizon are in the situation room tryin to figure out what the fuck they can do about this.
