MANILA, Philippines – Boxing legend "Sugar" Ray Leonard has recognized reigning pound-for-pound king Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao boxing skills, saying that there is no single approach that can decisively defeat the Filipino boxing icon.

"There is not one way to approach a guy like Manny Pacquiao," Leonard said on ESPN's SportsCenter.

"He has incredible hand speed, great footwork. He's always in great shape so you can never catch him on a bad day."

Leonard said the way to beat Pacquiao is to treat a boxing match as a "kind of chess match."

"It's the only way to beat a guy like Manny Pacquiao," Leonard said.

Pacquiao vs Mayweather

Leonard also shared his thoughts on the ongoing saga between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

"Both guys are indeed the best in their division, and I think that they're both trying to gain some psychological edge," he said.

Despite the drama that surrounded the negotiations, Leonard said he remains an optimist and believes that the fight will happen.

"But it has to happen pretty soon," said the ring legend. "I want to see it (the fight), as a fan."

Leonard also said that during his time as a boxer, he never ducked any one who challenged him.

"Champions fought champions back in my day," he said.

I wonder what Pryor would think about that :lol:

I think he wishes that he had a chance at a payday with srl.

Some say this thing about Leonard ducking Pryor is a myth. Personally, I don't remember Pryor ever even campaigning in Ray's weight class. I don't see why Ray would be brave enough to face monsters like Tommy Hearns and Marvin Hagler and then be scared of Pryor. Pryor basically should have stayed off the drugs. He would have had a longer career.

Basically. One name out of the hall of famers srl fought in his prime. Lol, come on.

I got you as soon as i find the video

They were at a dinner event with suits on Ray played him like a fan :lol:

^^^That and the fact that he got outed as a cheater. Panama was putting antihistimines in his water. All I know is Arguello was getting to dude, Pryor was tired as hell, walked slowly back to his corner, Panama fed him some of that "mixed" bottle and Pryor came out of the corner like a rocket.:hmm: It might have been well known in boxing circles back then and may be one of the reasons he never got a fight with the big names.

:lol::lol:

Here you go! :lol:

Ray played the shit out of dude:roflmao2::roflmao3:

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Even worse than he did Marvelous Marvin Hagler.

Lol, he never got that payday. Plus him and tommy never met as pros. Pryor was nice but his drug issues killed his career.

True.

This may be true, but then don't oversimplify shit by saying "Champions fought champions back in my day". :D

But it is true. Just because todays favorite boxers look for ways to avoid top fighters in their weight class. And somehow get love from fans amazes me.

Big M took it back for me. I forgot about mister banned from boxing for life rolled with pryor. That dude was a know cheater. Everything he touch was tainted.

:hmm: Come on son.... you supported that bullshit fiasco of Margarito fighting Manny and the possibility of a Margarito rematch with Cotto. Don't give me that "know(n) cheater" shit.

I understand avoiding suspect fighters which is why, even in the scenario that Merce presented, a motherfucker can't just say "Champions fought champions back in my day".

As far as Pryor campaigning at that weight... when has that been the requirement? Shit even SRL jumped up to middle for Hagler after a lay off. No campaigning unless you count one fight way back in the day.

Champions fought champions. Who's fault is it that Pryor only had one bigtime opponent? SRL didn't have to fight dude when there were other big time fighters for him to get in the ring with. Look at Pryor's resume and compare it to any other great fighter of that era. Pryor was a great talent. But he is another example of because of a lack of body of work to refer to. It is difficult to rate where he stacks up with the best.

Antonio didn't deserve that fight with Manny. But I was interested in seeing him in a ring with a much bigger guy. And a guy that PBF didn't find marketable enough to get in the ring when he was champion of the division.

He wasn't then and he wasn't when he fought Pacquiao as the lower numbers of people paying to see them was less than seeing Pac fight Josh Clottey in the same venue. So I guess Floyd was right.
Of course we've gone over why they didn't fight in a couple other threads but that's neither here nor there.

Dude, I didn't say it. Ray said it. "Champions fought champions". Pryor was a champion willing to give up the advantage by moving up and called SRL out publicly. SRL didn't make any "ifs", "buts" or "excepts" in the statement so... calm down and take it for what it was. No one said rate him, just that he was there and fit the requirements of being a "Champion".

Antonio doesn't deserve anything, but a brick to the head. Fuck him and yes, Pryor was dirty, but that redbull is way more forgivable than what that piece of shit Margarito pulled. So I could careless who didn't fight him... he barely deserves to live putting other's lives in danger, that cunt.
