This “$5 footlong” will now cost $6, outraging a nation.

The fare is going up at this Subway, too.

Subway is raising the cost of its $5 footlong to $6 starting Thursday.

Subway revealed the nine-cent-per-inch price increase in a stunning Twitter announcement that caused a social media frenzy.

Amid a national outcry over the loss of the trademark sub, the sandwich maker blamed rising costs.

“We launched the $5 footlong in 2007,” Subway tweeted. “Since then our costs have gone up greatly, but we try to balance that with promotions.”

Subway said the price increase would for now be limited to the “classic” sandwich and not salads, other offerings or upgraded subs.

People were so stunned by the news that they didn’t know who to blame.

“I blame @JaredLeto,” posted Arson By Larson on Twitter — mistakenly blaming the actor Jared Leto instead of Jared Fogle, the longtime Subway pitchman found guilty last year of kiddie porn.

Larson later apologized for his heat-of-the-moment tweet.
