Chicago Public Schools responded Monday after a years-old video of students appearing to harass a substitute teacher at a city school went viral on social media.

"The safety of students and staff is our top priority at Chicago Public Schools, and the behavior in this video is completely unacceptable,” CPS said in a statement. “Over the past four years, CPS has worked hard to provide all schools with restorative justice and social and emotional learning supports, both of which are shown to reduce misconducts and keep at-risk students connected to their school communities.”

The video that started popping up on Facebook over the weekend was filmed at Chicago Vocational Career Academy in 2011, and shows a group of teens swearing and acting violent toward a substitute teacher.

Students are seen throwing things at the teacher and one student is seen being held back by a fellow student while trying to attack the teacher for asking him his name. At one point a student is seen picking up a desk and threatening to hit the teacher with it.

The video was viewed more than 2 million times and received more than 54,000 shares on Facebook. It was also posted to the website Live Leak, where it received more than 115,000 views and hundreds of shares in less than 18 hours.

Officials said the video was filmed prior to the arrival of the school’s current principal and the teacher shown in the video has not worked at the school for a number of years. The students involved have also not attended the school for a number of years.

Just saw this vid the other day as FB link, didn't know it was that old (from 2011).

I knew that teacher was a substitute. From the way she was acting to the way the students were treating her. There was no way she could have been on the staff getting regular treatment like that on a daily basis.

I knew when we were in school we would treat the sub a little different than our normal teacher, but damn they took it next level!

I love my black people but lets keep it real... Most black people aren't in jail for a few joints... Remember that kid that shot and killed the mother with I believe nine kids, in Brownsville. Well prior to him killing the mother he got busted for having a few joints, and the people on the block said exactly what you said, they pleaded for the cop to let him go, he was a good kid and it was just a few joints... The cop listened and let him go with only a warning, and now nine lives are ruined by the coward act of that kid...
Plus look at how many people are out of jail with long ass rap sheets, everyday on the news you hear of a murderer getting arrested who has a long ass rap sheet that includes some very violent incidents.
90% of the people who get busted for joints are usually selling or got busted for something else other than weed.. I'm from the hood and never met a dude who did a bid over a only a few joints.. Matter of fact most kats I know that did over ten years in the joint, did way more shit and either got away with it in the first place, or they retrieved a slap on the wrist freeing them to do more and more dirt..

You are correct though, we do need less black men in jail, but suggesting that they stop arresting black me, even if they are breaking the law, is crazy, however if the child support laws were reformed perhaps less innocent black men will be arrested...

This is the story that should be at least 3 pages here. Better to ignore it and wait until some cac shoots up a school with no security and act like shit is comparable to community violence.

That story of that little boy is sad. They executed him.

And as for the kids attacking the teacher, it's old, it's real, but it doesn't justify the throwing kids around who aren't threats.

This is a teacher assaulted by a student.. but if teacher or officer would have laid a finger on the punk ohhhhhh hell it be all over Facebook. . F'n kids have zero respect for authority... then idiots out blaming cops and schools when kid gets what's coming to them..News for ya,,, Parents to blame!!!! teachers have most unappreciated yet MOST important job in this society.. and any kid who assaults a teacher should face maximum one strike punishment! !! I hear what everyone is saying about the girl getting man handled and I'm with you BUT...What do you do when you're a teacher and you have an unruly student or a class of wild ones like this... lets say this lady pulled out something and cracked that kid in his head with it, would we call that excessive force?
I think this video does relate a bit to the SC incident. What does a teacher do when there is a student that's not respecting his/ her authority. Teacher are employ to teach, not to act as social workers, police officers, or correctional officers. I see people in this thread faulting the teacher for the behavior of the students. I'm not sure I agree with that

Yes that would be excessive force and outside of her job duties. She should have just called an administrator.

WHAT THE FUCK IS A FRAGILE TEACHER??!! Teachers have to have military training and combat skills to teach you 3+3 now?? they have to suit up and carry heat so you can get your 1,2,3 a.b.c??!! Teachers shouldn't give a shit about your criminal record, lack of a father,hot temper,refusal to leave the game, the fact your :about that life" or any of that black man enduced self hype they are there to TEACH and without looking at the video I bet all I own that teacher wasn't a black male. teacher had, dude told her to sit down, and she obeyed a student..

Yes teachers have to be able to garner respect from their students,

that fragile lady was not able to do so.. she belonged teaching grades 1-3, nowhere near the high school level.


I have zero idea what your point is, but its not my problem because its YOUR point whether it exist or not....

The bottom line, that teacher was not fit to teach on that grade level,

and this video has shit to do with that savage piglice officer, treating that young girl like a wild animal and breaking her arm..

if you think this video relates to the south carolina incident that you

must be retarded..

all the children in that south carolina incident were in their seats and quiet...

even the poor girl that had her arm broken by that savage police officer...

she was no unruly, nor was she being disrespectful, her phone went off,

and as per many witnesses she was apologetic for it....

at what point did you see the students in the carolina incident

carrying on like those students from 2011..
