Fairmont Heights High student arrested after found with unassembled ghost gun in backpack
LANDOVER, Md. (7News) —

Fairmont Heights High School was placed on lockdown Thursday afternoon after school administrators learned a student brought parts of a ghost gun onto school property, police and school officials said.

The school, at 6500 block of Columbia Park Road Landover, went on lockdown around noon after Prince George's County Police received a report about a student with a gun. Officers immediately searched the school and found parts of a ghost gun in a classroom. The student who brought the unassembled parts of the gun was arrested.

At 1 p.m. the student was located and taken into custody, a Prince George's County Public Schools spokeswoman said.

“As our entire nation continues to grieve the loss of life in the Texas mass shooting, the Prince George’s County Police Department wants to ensure the community that the safety of students in our schools is our top priority. Bringing a weapon to school or even making a threat of violence will not be tolerated. We will arrest and charge accordingly,” said Chief Malik Aziz.

According to 7News Maryland Bureau Chief Brad Bell, it appeared the lockdown was lifted just before 2 p.m. as students were reunited with parents.

Students tell 7News they were frightened as they sheltered in place inside classrooms.

According to PGPD, no one was injured in the incident.

A PGCPS spokeswoman said another student notified the school resource officer that the student had the weapon.

This comes on the heels of the tragic school shooting at Robb Elementary at Uvalde, Texas on Tuesday. Nineteen fourth graders and two teachers lost their lives with an 18-year-old opened fire inside a classroom.

"In the wake of the Texas shooting, the PGPD has increased patrols at county schools. We encourage anyone who sees anything suspicious or learns of any potential threat at a school to notify police," PGPD said in a press release.

The investigation continues.

I suspect this was some gangster shit as opposed to potential mass shooter...glad they got him either way and shit must have been terrifying for the other students and school staff

Ghost guns are a problem

Not saying your wrong, but why are these worse?
What's a ghost gun?
Ghost guns are firearms that are privately assembled and untraceable. They can be assembled from "buy build shoot" kits or from other parts or they can be 3D-printed. Unlike other guns, these weapons don't have serial numbers. The Department of Justice's "Frame or Receiver" final rule focuses on these "buy build shoot kits."

Anyone can purchase these kits, said Alex McCourt, an assistant professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management at Johns Hopkins University's Bloomberg School of Public Health who studies firearm policy. You don't need a background check to buy one.

"Until they're put together, they're not considered guns," McCourt said. "And so anybody that is prohibited from purchasing a gun or possessing a gun can get one of these kits."

Those with a history of domestic violence or convictions for other violent offenses can purchase ghost guns. Even children can order and build them, McCourt said.

The White House says the weapons can be assembled from a kit in as little as 30 minutes. But it takes some tools and could take some time, McCourt said. It's not like building with Legos, he added

Our 2022 reality check will pay for these or...h'bout just billin the gun lobby/mfr..?

I know what they are. I'm asking mostly from a philosophical perspective, why are they worse than retail bought fully assembled guns? If we all have a right to bear arms, then why should we have to buy them assembled instead of putting them together yourself.

Hopefully this becomes the norm with folks reporting shit.

The norm for the past 30 years has been “Oh….He’s just going thru a phase…It will pass”.

How many times these mofos shoot shit up and folks come out later saying they knew something was up but didn’t say anything.

See Something, Say Something

Understood.

I think the anonymity of the ghost gun is what’s dangerous. Many of these are polymer based rifles, and the 3D printing makes them very easy to evade authorities and metal detectors. Even the most basic of people could sneak in one part per day into a facility, keep them hidden, and assemble on whichever day they choose.

Could you imagine what a disgruntled and vengeful flight attendant could do with one of these? Especially if there were a locked storage cabin for stewards somewhere?

I think it’s the stealth of the guns make them irresistible.

Same. The wife’s friends has two little girls that go to this school. Just a barrage of texts and concern smh.

Thankfully they stopped it but the ghost gun situation around here is ramping up.

Ramping up? Man it's been out of control for years now.
Most of these youngins are running around with ghost guns. That's why "gun control" is pretty much useless at this point.

Touché and agreed. I think the tech behind them have come of age in the most recent years but yea, the non polymer ones with scratched serials have been around since forever and a day.

Bans are the only measure left.

Laws mean nothing.

Traceability is all that ghost guns avoid. And that's only done after the fact, when a crime has been committed involving a firearm. The very people that want to trace guns, police and law enforcement, are in bed with the coalition that prevents automated gun traceability databases. If I understand correctly most mass shootings don't involve ghost guns. When someone wants to kill a lot of people quickly, they opt for a professionally engineered, machined and assembled unit with tight tolerances and high reliability. They don't want to take any chances when they may only get a few seconds to take down a dozen people.

Mass shootings are definitely not in contention when it comes to ghost guns …. Yet. They’re more suited for the Chicago style shootouts we’re accustomed to on the streets.

But wait till the tech gets better in the coming years .. once they engineer tf out of em, it’s gonna be interesting.

Always reminds me of the movie In The Line Of Fire where John Malkovich made that composite gun.

There are plenty of AK and AR ghost parts available online no questions. But so far assembling the larger guns is a little more intimidating and once assembled they can't be hidden in a shoe box or other small space a kid would have.

P.S. He's a great actor.

Below is the response from someone in a gun club im in here in the DMV

The incident at Walmart is legit. A friend's mother was involved. From what I heard, the two white guys weren't arrested on the spot because they were carrying legally. Stay vigilant folks.
Jesus, they were ready and waiting. Staying vigilant is definitely key now. Moreso than ever.

America is at a turning point right now this could either go very bad or very good. I keep telling you guys with the demographic changes that is happening some Republicans just want to see the world burn at this point.

I posted excerpts in the Texas thread prior, and if you get a chance and haven’t already, read the Buffalo shooters manifesto. I have a habit of deep diving into these criminals mentale to see what exactly drives them to this and much of their psyches are well connected. Whenever these things happen, it’s always comes back to them running scared of being replaced as the majority and they’re gearing up to bring this whole thing down. It’s a Great Reset sorta mentality that keeps rearing it’s ugly head. Idk if that kid was of that ilk in Uvalde but I wouldn’t be surprised if he was. He gave WS vibes from jump.

They're shook and mobilizing underground.

Uvalde kid was Hispanic and he killed mostly hispanics plus tried killing his own grandmother...would seem to be different shit

I have been thinking of PG ever since that Buffalo shit happened....people (FOX crowd) who don't know the area think it's a bunch of affluent Blacks in a state with strong (legal) gun control...vigilance will be key....hopefully those dudes at Walmart were extensively questioned even while the cops try to deny their existence
