STRAW | Official Trailer | Netflix [ Taraji P. Henson ]

Wife and I watched this and it wasn't horrible...

I had a feeling it wouldn't be one of those Tyler Perry flicks that was just completely overwhelmed with foolishness and unintentional comedy, just off the strength of Tarajis acting and the nature of the story. similar to a woman led version of John Q.

Of course there were moments of overly dramatic characters/situations. unnecessarily long scenes, simplistic dialogue and Hamfisted messages with no nuance but all that shit is baked into the cake when it comes to Tyler Perry productions.

This jawn was saved by Taraji and Sheri sheppard and the understanding of the community having to look out for eachother and the system not recognizing our humanity unless there are some of us involved in the system.

This was actually pretty decent.
Wasn't ready for that ending, but it explains more in detail of her psychotic break in reality......(which has been displayed in plenty of movies).
But that was enough to make any mufucka breakdown into a mental relapse.

He had one masterpiece, IMO: 'The Six Triple Eight'

This was not that. Not even close.

But aside from that film, 'Straw' was better than all the other stuff he's put out in the last 5 or so years.

Taraji did her thing. Sherri Shepherd and Teyana Taylor were good too.

Just another single mother type bullshit movie.

Do we ever get tired of seeing these movies?

Mr. Perry doesn't seem to have anything else to produce because it's always these struggling black women movies.

I agree why I didn't like certain scenes but that movie was powerful.

The other movie with kelly rowland and that painter was a good one too.

I'm just tired of the movies he produces when it comes to black women always either poor, on drugs or pregnant with multiple baby daddies.

Once I saw Taraji Henson was gonna be on STRAW about a single parent struggling, I knew I had to pass on it.

I mean i enjoyed seeing Kelly Rowland titties because if she wasn't naked in that movie, I wasn't gonna watch it.

I thought that Kelly Rowland one was crappy. But I enjoyed looking at her.

You have a pertinent point about him being "one note" in his portrayals.

He's not very creative, and him doing everything himself comes through in his productions.

This one felt like, 'John Q' to me (one of my least favorite Denzel W. movies).

Curious on this part..cause a lot of people say the same about Training Day

Back then everyone and their mama was watching that movie saying how great it was and talking about that movie for weeks and sometimes wanting to watch that movie again.
