Sports Debate: Do you have to HATE your opponent to be effective?

I never played anything serious outside high school barely.

But for YEARS especially when events like the decision or Knicks vs bulls or kyrie/kd and even Strahan breaking the sack record on Favre...

It's been stated that it is necessary to HATE your opponent to be able to properly compete against someone.

I've actually got a chance to talk to a few coaches (variety of sports) as high as college about this.

And I've gotten mixed responses which is to be expected but most were of the belief that it was more of a motivational tool as opposed to reality.

And that it was manufactured for fans.

But I see white fans really stand on that belief and it is twisted more into pure racism and dehumanizing black men as emotionally limited toys for their pleasure.

We are unable to compete effectively purely for competition

We NEED to have that target or we will lose focus and motivation.

I disagree black men can still be friends and brothers and kick each other ass on the field of play and shake hands afterward.

Thoughts?

It's funny you mentioned Favre and Strahan. It's long been suggested that Favre went out his way to make it easy for Strahan to break the record.

It's been assumed Favre really wanted him to break the record. There didn't seem to be any hate or animosity between them.

Yes, the biggest complainers about how the record was broken were football fans.

That's why I mentioned it

No one no one no one would ever say those 2 Hal of fame players ain't play with passion.

But they also smiled and had fun.

"Hate" wasn't really necessary

And especially for white players? It's never EXPECTED.

Farve was always "just a kid out there drawing up plays in the dirt"

But black players hug or shake hands?

White commentary is that is what's wrong with the modern athlete they too familiar

If the battle of the races was a basketball game, who'd reign?
Look for the blacks we have
Strickland Ewing Magic course Jordan is the don
Isiah Dominique Barkley and Akeem Olujawon
For the whites Bird Kiki McHale and Paxon
Shouldn't go any further you know it's gonna get wack son
But if the black players have an ego, and won't let go
the rock no matter how nice they are they're gonna flop
Look chop - in a sold-out capacity crowd
The upsets will be so loud
Yes teamwork, yes y'all teamwork
If a jerk wants to go for self he gets hurt, and now
Dinkins is the man, so Magic form the plan
Yo Strickland run the point, Jordan is the guard and
organize! - Chubb Rock
