I played football and other sports because I wanted to play, not because of my Dad.

But no, I wouldn't want my kids playing football because it's too dangerous.

I didn’t play football until my freshman year in highschool. Pops wouldn’t let me do pop Warner. I did flag all the way up until that point. When I did play tackle my moves were better than kids who played tackle they whole life. Flag taught me how to avoid people way better. I was a running back so it especially helped. My son is playing baseball so I don’t have to worry about this anyway. He wants to play football but only flag for him.

3 sons, one played youth football, the other two did not. Big mistake. I should have had all 3 play youth at least one year, maybe 2. If they play HS football, the experience they gained from youth will protect them, there is a lot to get used to with helmets and pads. Further, they have "safe-sided" the youth game so much that while there is risk, it is acceptable IMO. I don't think that you can extrapolate the risks inherent with the NFL level to any other level. The NFL is a whole other level of physics and violence.

I didnt start playing football until I was in HS. I let my son decide, we got him camps a little early, but it wasn't tackle or anything. I let him choose his own path. Even if he did play, I wouldn't want to be out there coaching
