Not sure if everyone knew but the first 48 is not exactly "real."
There have been lawsuits against the show and detectives / PDs.
The Pod Criminal recently did a story on a case from 2008 from the shows earlier origins.
A suspect and the assumed murderer (Edgar) was established with mere seconds to spare on the 48 hr clock. In actuality it took almost a week to identify him as a suspect and 10 days to arrest him.
And after 16 years in prison it was determined Edgar actually wasn't the murderer.
