Real talk fam. I’m thinking of opening a computer repair shop. There was this small computer repair shop that closed because the owner had to move due to a family emergency. My initial research indicates that the location is good, the area under served (no other computer repair shops within 3 miles) and I’m ready to take control of my destiny.

1. Anyone here owns a computer repair shop or small business? If so pm me because I have a few questions about what to do to get started.

2. What place do you recommend I can buy computer supplies wholesale?

3. If you’re a small business owner do you have any advice about running a small business as far as what to do and not to do?

thanks

Start small......If you can not inventory $20,000 worth of equipment...a store may not be a good idea. Get contracts and work out of you home, if possible. Use Quickbooks. Sign all checks and control your money.

Yeah I agree start out of your home and do a lot of advertising. I been doing it for a minute but here in Atlanta most black people are tight with the money so you have to network with those willing to spend. I try to deal with a lot of industry folks and entrepreneurs setting up office.

Are you that dude who takes down my signs? :D

I like to have my prices high enough where I eliminate questions for those who can't afford me.

Where are you located, I run a shop out of my home and business is ok. well before Katrina, in New Orleans, it was really good. So I had to improvise and jump into other areas like home theater installation. I contract out all my programming cause its not really worth the money. I get my supplies from a company based out of Atlanta called MaxGroup, www.maxgroup.com. My cases come from Amamax www.amamax.com, I get some stuff from NewEgg when they have sales and special combos. I get flyers made and get my cousins to pass them out for a few bucks. PLus I give them free lessons so when things get busy I already have a staff available.

If you build computers as well you should also think about building duplicators as well. In the right area you can pull in $500 plus a day if you market right. Plus you get to write off half of your expenses for you house and car.
