Slander. Or defamation of character. Lies, rumors, whatever you want to call it.

It can get serious and you can sue someone for it.

I'm a firm believer that we care what others think about us. Not to confuse that with worry*.

I mean if someone said you were a pedophile, had AIDS, or whatever i gurantee you'd care. Possibly worry. What others think of us forms our reputation (somewhat). And people can kill your reputation. Make others affraid of you, jealous of you, intimidated by you.....

In "The Psychology of Rumor," G.W. Allport and L. Postman describe a basic law of rumor. According to the law, a rumor's strength is approximately equal to its importance to the individual concerned times the ambiguity of the evidence: R

But how much do you care what others think about you? I figured this is a interesting convo and i thought i might be able to use it to help and encourage my friend.

But lets say people are talking about you behind your back and your friend/family/co-workers dont tell you and they are hearing it. Would you: Be mad at them for not telling you so you can defend someone of defaming your character, be happy that they didn't want to tell you cuz they didnt want to hurt your feelings, or feel indifferent towards them because they must beleieve it if they're not telling it to you.

People lying about me is something that really gets on my nerves but now I try not to worry about it too much. I quit caring about what people thought about me a long time ago.

I have been in a situation where someone has been out lying about me with my friends and other people that knew the truth around and I was kinda mad that nobody said anything but in the end I was like "Fuck It", I dont give a damn about what people think anyway.

I used too,both on and offline. Now,I don't give a damn.

So extreme hypothetical scenario that would never happen. You're accused of sending text messages to the Mayor of Detroit and they publish it and say it is you when it really isn't.

Are you really going to tell me you wouldn't care how these rumors affect you and that you wouldn't try to issue a statement and sue for slander?

Law 5

So Much Depends on Reputation – Guard it with your Life

Reputation is the cornerstone of power. Through reputation alone you can intimidate and win; once you slip, however, you are vulnerable, and will be attacked on all sides. Make your reputation unassailable. Always be alert to potential attacks and thwart them before they happen. Meanwhile, learn to destroy your enemies by opening holes in their own reputations. Then stand aside and let public opinion hang them.

Actually,Im smart enough to leave no evidence, texts, voicemails or otherwise.

why is your name da_snitch?

Because the emotional reaction associated with a screen name like this makes me easy to be remembered.

You know like if someone post a emotional reaction on a thread title like "dam i aint never seen a ass that couldn't fit throught a door way" would be more memorable then a title that doesn't display a emtional reaction such as "this bitch has some big ass tittys"

Read it in my book....we remember things esp. events more if they give us a emotional reaction.

Think about it you remeber exactly where you were when 9-11 happened dont you?

Do you remember where you were when the Tsunami hit....see.
