.Shot in face, Texas cop still chases down and handcuffs suspected gunman:

Ann Carrizales, 40 — an officer with the Stafford Police Department — took two bullets, including one in the cheek, during a routine traffic stop outside Houston early Saturday. The wounded cop still managed to get into her car and follow the suspects until the alleged gunman was arrested.

Ann Carrizales, an officer with the Stafford Police Department, says she had no choice but to pursue the suspects: 'You can’t shoot me and drive away — it’s not allowed.'

A tough-as-nails Texas cop took two bullets, including one to her face, at point-blank range — and still managed to chase down and cuff the alleged gunman.

The harrowing ordeal unfolded after Ann Carrizales, 40 — an officer with the Stafford Police Department — pulled a car over early Saturday for a routine stop outside Houston, according to local reports.

But as Carrizales, a former U.S. Marine, stepped up to the driver’s side window — a man in the passenger seat pulled out a handgun and opened fire.

One round pierced through the officer’s cheek and another lodged in her bullet-resistant vest. Carrizales returned fire, but the car sped away.

The bleeding cop ran back to her cruiser to call for backup — then put the car in gear and went after the suspects.

“I knew that it was what I needed to do to catch these guys,” a bandaged Carrizales told NBC’s TODAY on Thursday. “You can’t shoot me and drive away — it’s not allowed.”

The wounded officer remained on a line with a dispatcher, who sent more units to help Carrizales chase down the suspects.

The 20-mile pursuit ended after cops managed to pull the car over.

The suspected gunman, 21-year-old Sergio Francisco Rodriguez, was handcuffed at the scene. He was later charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer.

Two other men — including the alleged driver, Freddy Henriquez, 28 — ran away from the abandoned car and were still at large Thursday.

Carrizales was rushed to a hospital, where she was treated for her injuries.

“It wasn’t an option for me to give up,” said Carrizales, a one-time boxer who was named top cop by her colleagues last year.

How about attempted murder as a charge? Sounds like he slapped his girlfriend around with that aggravated assault charge.

There are 4 different types of murder charges and the prosecutors need more information prior to applying any of them. Aggravated assault on a peace officer is severe enough to remand the individual to jail without bond. I am sure more charges will be levied after the prosecutors have fully evaluated the incident.

The pursuit ended in the area of Greenfork Drive and Concourse Drive in Houston, Texas. 21 year old Sergio Rodriguez was immediately taken into custody. He is charged with Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer. The two other men fled the area on foot and remain fugitives. 28 year old Freddy Henriquez has been identified as the driver of the vehicle.
