A SEX doll brothel that let customers “try before they buy” was shut down by cops in Hong Kong.
The brothel charges an hourly rate of £48 ($480 HKD) for clients to use one of the three silicone sex dolls at the venue.
It is part of a marketing scheme to get customers to buy the dolls which sell between £1,800 ($18,000 HKD) and £3,000 ($30,000 HKD).
Male clients also have the option to bring a female companion for a 90-minute session with a doll for £86 ($860 HKD).
The owner of the brothel called This Mary was arrested one day after the South China Morning Post published a story about it.
The owner, who has only been identified as Rex, told the Post his service was to help people with intimacy.
He told the Post: “I’m helping with their mental needs. Some men have been single for a long time and do not have many chances to meet women.
“Someone may want to talk to people, but perhaps they are not good at social skills, and so they talk to the dolls. It’s more than sex.”
He said he required customers to wear a condom and that the dolls would be soaked in disinfectant for at least 30 minutes after each session.
A police spokesman said a 30-year-old man was arrested following into an anti-obscene objects operation at a flat on Friday.
The owner was released on bail but must report back to police next month.
At the time of publishing the brothel's website was still active.
Police seized three television sets, 18 sex toys and three memory sticks.
He was not arrested for the sex doll business but for publicly displaying sex toys for sale without covering them, which is a violation of the Control of Obscene and Indecent Articles Ordinance.
Rex was also not arrested for the three sex dolls because there are no laws for police to act on, Business Insider reports.
Police are determining if Rex violated the Hotel and Guesthouse Accommodation Ordinance, which stipulates venues offering accommodation for a fee for less than 28 days have to be licenced.
