The airport is playing host this week to a show of World War II-era planes.

Seven people aboard a vintage World War II plane were killed Wednesday when it crashed shortly after takeoff, erupting into flames at Bradley International Airport, just outside of Hartford, Connecticut, authorities said.

State Police Commissioner James Rovella told reporters at an evening news conference that the families of all but three of the victims had been contacted.

The flight took off at 9:45 a.m. before reporting five minutes later that it was having difficulties, authorities said.

"We observed that the aircraft was not gaining altitude," Connecticut Airport Authority Executive Director Kevin Dillon said.

right up by me - (30 miles).
some of the injured were 1st responders; that foam to put out flames is toxic I believe..
they gotta put on the PPE before rushing in to save lives!
Nah bruh …. it ain't toxic …. it's some kind of soap derivative …. we use it all the time …. and it's also eco-safe/bio degradable ... we also use it to clean up blood at outside crime scenes when the police ask for assistance … we use a 6% solution …. the foam removes the air from the "fire triangle" by forming a surface over the burning fuel, cutting off the oxygen. Removing any part of the triangle will extinguish a fire .

I stand corrected:
it wasn't "1st Responders" injured.
airport employees who responded 1st faced the fire/heat & fumes before the foam was used.
The airplane fuel & de-icing tanks getting burned up ain't healthy to breathe.
They saturated the local broadcast with no updated info I had to turn it off after a while, thus my misunderstanding.

"...Rovella said there were 10 passengers and three crew members on the bomber when it crashed. One person on the ground was injured when the airplane struck a small building and tanks that hold de-icing fluid. A firefighter also suffered minor injuries, he said. Rovella also said stories of heroism will emerge in the coming days. State troopers interviewed some survivors and he said someone on the plane kicked open a hatch, allowing some to escape the burning aircraft. Airport employees ran to the plane to help people get out of the burning airplane, he said."

This is the plane, just before takeoff.

So much of that foam, it looks like snow on the ground near the firetruck wheels.

When the water flow and pressure is adjusted to use it with a regular fire engine you'll run through a 5gal container of the foam additive in about a minute .... I believe the trucks at the airport mix the foam with the water internally though ...

White folks love flying in those old fucked up planes. Hope it was worth it.......

It's hard enough keeping modern planes well maintained, let alone a plane from the fuckin 40's. Fuck that.

The fumes and vapors from the burning fuel is toxic too I believe. Did anyone on ground get hit? Shit ain't no joke! When I hear airshow I be like I'll watch that MF from a distance from now on.
