Serious Health Question

i had an extremely high fever last year April...so high that i developed fever blisters...also known as cold sores....

Just yesterday i noticed a small sore again, but i have no fever at all this time....so i started looking it up and apparentley it's a FORM of the Herpes Virus (not the STD kind) that is apparentley very common. And some people go throughout life just have cold sores from time to time....caused by stress or even sunlight exposure....Anybody know more about this?

Basically what i'm asking is....this virus that i have...Will i have it the rest of my life? and it'll just come up whenever it feels like??!??!

You have most probably had hsv1 since you were a kid. The fact that you are starting to show more frequent outbreaks than usual can be extremely bad news. It means that there is a serious weakening of your immune system. Please get a blood test. I really wish you the best. Please keep us posted.

yea ^^^ HSV is what i read about....i thought it was caused by my high fever....as i read back at the time, very high fevers can also cause the "fever blisters" but now that one small one came up and i have no fever at all whatsoever...i'm like...wtf????

Just sucks.... ; /

Herpes simplex 1 , aka cold sores, most of the time has nothing to do with a serious weakening of your immune system . The virus lingers in the neurons in your mouth, and just slowly creeps down till it gets a chance to proliferate and cause the sore . The herpes simplex 1 virus is in 80% of all americans , and about 20 % of us develop the cold sore . MOst of the time its transmitted as a kid , when as lil niggaz drinking eachothers fruit drinks .

To answer you question , the virus will remain in your system for the rest of your life , as there's no cure .

I personally had cold sores , before i even kissed a girl as a lil one. And i haven't had an outbreak since i was in high school , im 24 now . So no real worries .

What you need to do is try to recognize triggers on that cause the cold sore ( stress , fatigue, anxiety , poor diet , too much chocolate ) and try to stay away from that . Also keeping a good diet excercise, and adequate rest will definately decrease the frequency of cold sores .

If the cold sores get out of hand , there is topical antiviral (acyclovir ) medications you could ask your primary care physician for .

I wouldnt worry too much about the sores on your lips .

NOw if that sore pops up on your genitals , then go to your doctor , as soon as you get the leisons .
Then your doctor will take a culture of the ulcers , and come back with the results.

To the poster above me, blood tet for herpes simplex ,is expensive . Its usually reserved for cases in which there is a probable viral infection in the brain (encephalitis) .

No, this is how it goes. Almost every body has hsv1 since they were children. HSV2 causes std herpes. We build antibodies to HSV1 so that we don't get outbreaks often. If you are starting to see HSV1 outbreaks, especially if you're black, then there maybe a problem with your immune system. That is what you should check and fix now!

Why is it expensive, I asked my doctor to do mine as part of my yearly test and I don't pay for it. It's covered by insurance, if you have one.

Thanks man, this was very informative....

no cure huh ; /

And i guess it does all make sense...i have been terribley stressed out lately...i suppose that could've triggered it...only good thing about it is that it's just a small one on the corner of my lip, don't know if i would consider it an outbreak yet....Also, does anyone know of any kinda treatment? As in, ointments to use to help the healing process?

I wasn't clear in my post to explain to an extent .

There are several different test that are done to detect hsv . I was thinking of the higher end test , named PCR , that is used to detect viral brain infections.

There is some other simpler blood test serology that could be used . But i've never heard of it used as a yearly screening measure . Often they offer serologic blood test if the ulcers are recent , but they are unable to take a sample from there . But still thats with herpes simplex -2 ...

to the original poster , i think your high fever and combo of stress is the trigger that caused the blister .

There are a bundle of home remedies you could use google to find out whats going on . But usually it just takes it course .

I think copping a LYsine vitamins will help in keeping a balance of lysine in your blood which is suspected to decrease the frequency of future outbreaks . I just check some medical journals as a reference for this vitamin .

If you've ever had the chicken pox, then you have the Herpes Simplex virus.

You can get cold sores or shingles with a weakened immune system.

i think i also read somewhere that DURING the infection i should stay away from citrus fruits n such.....i wonder why? Other than it'll sting i'm sure.

Coincidentaly, i just drank 2 quarts of Orange Juice 4 days ago....why? I just had a craving ;x

Wrong information .

Your getting confused with herpes simplex and herpes zoster( shingles) . THere both part of the herpes family , but their clinical presentation is totally different . To go into depth about shingles is a new thread .

Yeah, I'd be stressed as fuck too.

For real though, nothing you read here or hear from anyone else should keep you from going to see a doctor. It's already whatever it is and being informed is only going to benefit your health. Good luck, man.

You will be ok. I just got really sick recently and broke out with a fever blister. Last time I had one was 3 yrs ago out of nowhere. 1st time I got mine was when I was like 9. Mine is not on my lip thank god but I have been using Campho-Phenique Drying Action gel and Campho-Phenique Scab Relief. Use 1st one to dry it up and the 2nd one takes care of the scab that will come.

:smh: It sucks man b/c niccas be trying to be funny saying dumb stuff like what nasty pussy you been eatin and shit. Fuck man I hate this shit.

word up.
if you had chicken pox or some other strain of the virus it lays dormant in your system until your immune system is compromised by a flu or illness and resurfaces. it often becomes shingles in older people because they cant fight off illness like they used to. it is herpes viral, but not nothing you cant openly discuss with your potential mate. just get checked out so you know the signs and treatments.

Don't Take Any Chances. Go To A Doctor A.S.A.P. And Get Blood Sample Drawn To Verify Any Stds!!!!!!!!! If You Got No Insurance, Look Up A Clinic In Your City. Clinics Are Usually Free Or Very Affordable.

You're referring to Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV), which causes chicken pox and shingles. Herpes Simplex Virus (HZV) types 1 and 2 ,though related to VZV, are different entities (they are both members of the human herpesvirus family).

To the OP:
The episode with blisters and fever back in april was likely what's called a PRIMARY outbreak, which is often the most severe and can be associated with fever.

I'm assuming the cold sores you've been having are near/around your mouth. Just playing the numbers it's likely that you have HSV-1 (unless you suspect having been exposed to a partner with genital herpes). HSV-1 is very common. If these sores are appering on your genitals it much more likely that you have HSV-2 (genital herpes).

There is no cure for either one of these and reccurrence of outbreaks usually occur during times of stress (like you seem to be experiencing now), times you are otherwise sick (colds, etc) or if you immune system becomes compromised. I would say you should see a doctor for a definitive evaluation and diagnosis. In the meantime, try over the counter ointments like Abreva when they pop up.

Hope this helps.

Abreva dont work man :smh: Well not for me.:(

... I don't have much personal experience treating HSV on an outpatient basis in adults (only seen infected newborns in the hospital). Like a said, see you primary doctor, he/she may prescirbe acyclovir or valacyclovir, which as far as i know are the most commonly used drugs for HSV.

Yeah I forgot. Herpes zoster. But that also can cause cold sores. I know because I had it when I was off my thyroid hormone for a month.

The OP is obviously trolling. Anything as alarming as lesions on your mouth would generate hours of google searches and/or doctors visits. Who develops blisters on their mouths and goes to a short-bus board for medical advice? y'all niggas are taking the bait.
