Self-styled ‘Barbie Man’s’ Florida home filled with 2,000 of the iconic dolls

Stanley Colorite’s $80,000 collection has become an obsession, filling four rooms of his Tampa-area home.
Stanley Colorite is living in a Barbie world.
The 41-year-old Florida man says he has 2,000 of the iconic Mattel dolls more commonly thought of as little girls’ playthings. But Colorite, the self-proclaimed “Barbie Man,” and his partner, Dennis Schlicker, have amassed an $80,000 collection. That includes an additional 1,000 Ken dolls, Barbie’s equally flawless significant other.

Colorite said Barbie is not just a toy for little girls. Adults can get it on the fun, too. "You're always in a good mood, because you always have beauty around you," he said of his remarkable collection, which includes rarities such as No. 6 Barbie, the sixth doll ever made

Colorite’s $80,000 collection also includes 1,000 Ken dolls, because Barbie just wouldn’t be complete without her equally flawless beau.

"Barbie isn't just a toy for children; she's for adult collectors too,” Colorite told Barcroft Media. “I can't stop collecting -- it's like a drug habit. I just can't quit."

Colorite’s habit has transformed his seven-bedroom Tampa-area home into a Barbie museum. The dolls, along with about 3,000 outfits, line the walls, from his Wonder Woman version to 1962’s No. 6 Barbie -- the sixth doll ever made.

"People walk into my museum, and their jaws just drop to the ground. They just don't know what to say,” Colorite said. "The Barbies take up four rooms of the house, but I won't stop collecting until I run out of rooms.”
He’s been at it for about 16 years, picking up doll-size airplanes, motorcycles and limousines for his figurine friends. His most expensive doll is worth $700, Colorite told ABC Action News, but he never spends top dollar. Colorite says he has an eye for value and find the dolls online or at yard sales.

"Any time I'm at a garage sale or an estate sale or a flea market, I see anything pink, your eyes go directly -- my eyes go directly to it -- and I'm like ‘Is it Barbie?’" Colorite said.
He even sleeps in a room lined with the dolls, a collection he says began with one Barbie and continued to grow.
