Salt: The Silent Killer

After my last doctor's visit, I've been wondering if the salt thing was actually true and have been seeing studies showing that it doesn't cause high blood pressure as people believe.

"Some physicians argue that although tiny blood pressure drops will not have a big effect on individuals—they will not really affect your risk of having a heart attack—they may end up saving lives at the population level, in part because a small percentage of the population, including some African-Americans and elderly individuals, seem to be hypersensitive to salt. For instance, a study published in February 2010 in the New England Journal of Medicine estimated that cutting salt intake by about 35 percent would save at least 44,000 American lives per year. But such estimates are not evidence, either; they are conjecture. And low-salt diets could have side effects: when salt intake is cut, the body responds by releasing renin and aldosterone, an enzyme and a hormone, respectively, that increase blood pressure."

I'm still studying trying to figure out fact from fiction but it is only recent that I've heard doctors countering that salt is bad.

There are other health related things I question about the HBP problem like:
What is the person's daily water intake?
What are their electrolyte levels overall (magnesium and potassium deficiency are big in America)?
How much movement does that person get in a day?
I do know that we have a lot of additional salt added to things like pre-packaged and processed foods so that can be a factor but from what I see, seasoning to taste isn't harmful.

Hey true white table salt is SHIT... BUUUUUUUUUT you MUUUST have some.

PINK HIMALAYAN SALT... Put a little in your water.. INSTANT MINERAL WATER BRUH...

You got a problem MRFREDDYGOODBUD GOT THE SOLUTION.

One of the most notable health benefits of Himalayan pink salt is its ability to help detoxify the body and soften the skin. This special type of salt has a unique combination of minerals, including magnesium, calcium, and potassium, that help to stimulate circulation and detoxify the body.

BEING MRFREDDYGOODBUD IS SUCH THANKLESS WORK!!!

yea I know a nurse that says, most people come into the hospital feeling some sort of way, are just severly dehydrated and once they have

an I.V they are good to go... she said some folks just like coming to hospitals...

Im the extreme opposite of them lab rats!

I knew people whose primary beverage was just soda all day. They complain about being tired, acne, etc. I asked how much water did they drink a day? They said they didn't like the taste of water. I had people tell me they didn't like to drink water because it made them go to the bathroom to often. :smh:

I'd say it needs to be in monitored moderation. My rule is flipping over labels just watch out for astronomically high amounts.

I've learned you don't need the sugar if you have flavor.

Lemon water
Lime water
Brewed tea with no sugar

Once you get used to it drinking sugared drinks is too much, tastes just like what it is: sugar and water.

in front of our long overdue reparations.. and you STILL VOTING FOR DEMOCRATS, WHO THINK UKRANIANS WHO NEVER DID SHIT

FOR THIS COUNRTY ARE MORE DESERVING OF REPARATIONS THAN THE FOLK WHO HELPED BUILD IT..

THEN YEA THEY DEFINITELY GOT BRAIN PARASITES CONTROLLING THEM LIKE PUPPETS...!!!

It can affect some but not all

Same reason why some people develop cancer and some dont

Same reason some people are tall and some are not

Just pray and hope you don’t have high BP or Diabetus

WTF?????!!!!
Yeah man. The excuses I heard were pretty dumb. As a teen I drank waaaay too much soda and ate fast food too often. Sometime back in my Army days I quite sodas altogether. Skin was always clear after that. Being hydrated is important to me.

I've chimed in on threads here before about lemon water. That's all I drink when I go to restaurants. I take a steel bottle or cup with me on hot days, fill it with ice and then refill with water as needed. I can't tell you how much more tolerable the summer heat is if you're properly hydrated. Dick Gregory has always taught how beneficial water in our diet is. Even hydrating fruits and vegetables are excellent: cucumbers, watermelon, romaine lettuce, etc.

That's real and the same thing with salt. I started growing my own herbs and using fresh herbs in my dishes. I didn't need the salt.

When I read that sodium intake was lower for us I was pretty amazed because I didn't know. 1500 mgs or 1300 if you have health issues like high BP. My BP was 140/80 when I started my reduction of salt. To give you perspective on how much sodium is 1300 1/4 of a tsp of salt is around 700 mgs of sodium. 1 tsp of salt is about 2300 mgs of sodium

When I looked at my diet easily I was intaking over 5000 mgs a day easy. If some of you are gasping, I get it. But in reality. If you eat anything processed you're probably taking in around the same amount if you're not watching your intake. This was me eating healthy. I was using Tony's seasoning on my already sodium added salt water fish. I didn't know they added salt to FISH! They also add it to chicken, never knew that either. So I buy natural no salt fish and chicken. I don't eat any other meat.

After keeping my sodium intake with added salt to about 1/4 tsp, BP is 106/70. The brother that mentioned diet, water. On point with that info. I'm not sure if salt affects BP for all folks but it did with me. Once I started eating even less to see what would happen. BP was 90/60 which was way too low.

I realized its ok to reduce salt, but again as the brother mentioned in an above post, too little can throw off the electrolytes. The body needs some sodium in order to properly function.

For me it played a major role. I can see in some of your comments that some of yall feel a brother when I say, trying to tell someone hey, the sugar the salt, the fat is killing us, is a waste of breath for most people because it requires effort and lifestyle changes that most are not wiling to do, so they do they next best thing and take a pill to treat and not heal the situation.

I stopped telling the fellas, man you wouldn't need dem blue pills if you lost some weight, stop drinking alcohol, sodas and stop eating all that literally low energy food and eat high nitrate foods that promote blood flow, like beet juice, your joint would be ready like you were in your 20's. Nikkas aint trying to hear that shit.

For me, I want to live. It took me 4 years but I have reprogrammed my microbiome and I have no desire for sweets, fat or carbs. I only drink water. I have milk Kefir on my salad, but never any other liquids.

Brothers and sisters, real talk. Don't listen to me. I challenge all of you. One day seriously take a look at everything you eat. Observe the big 3' fat, sodium and sugar. If that's too much take a look at just your sodium intake. Don't wait for life to

Before you understand. Be well.

Let me tell y'all I had not been to the hospital in years. I got setup with a VA Clinic nearby so I have to do a yearly visit. I went last winter and I was nervous the whole time. Didn't want to hear anything fucked up. Good thing was since the pandemic, I was cooking at home more, drinking smoothies, eating salads, lowered my calories. I still didn't trust it.
Got my BP taken first and was surprised as hell it was like 110/79 or something like that! Then I waited for the bloodwork. Elevated cholesterol but been that way my whole life (good cholesterol was high). All the other results came out normal.
So I'm 47, no health issues, heart still working and I haven't been suggested to be put on any medication. Feels good, brothas. All it takes is a little discipline.

Lemon Water is powerful.

I’ve definitely heard this from several people.

I’ve even heard people say it’s makes them nauseated
