Sales In Glock Pistols WAY Up After Arizona Shootings

Hey, everyone. Not to unnerve you, but apparently, days after a madman went on a murdery rampage with a Glock in Arizona, Arizonans are heading to gun stores in droves to purchase the very same weapon used by Jared Lee Loughner. It's as good an example as anything to demonstrate that there really is no such thing as bad publicity, only an inplacable, gnawing cynicism that permeates our existence and sends us, sobbing, into a fetal position.

Michael Riley from Bloomberg News documents how we at last have stimulated some aggregate demand in something!
After a Glock-wielding gunman killed six people at a Tucson shopping center on Jan. 8, Greg Wolff, the owner of two Arizona gun shops, told his manager to get ready for a stampede of new customers.

Wolff was right. Instead of hurting sales, the massacre had the $499 semi-automatic pistols -- popular with police, sport shooters and gangsters -- flying out the doors of his Glockmeister stores in Mesa and Phoenix.

"We're at double our volume over what we usually do," Wolff said two days after the shooting spree that also left 14 wounded, including Democratic Representative Gabrielle Giffords, who remains in critical condition.
Of course, this is nothing new, nor is it a localized oddity:
One-day sales of handguns in Arizona jumped 60 percent on Jan. 10 compared with the corresponding Monday a year ago, the second-biggest increase of any state in the country, according to Federal Bureau of Investigation data. From a year earlier, handgun sales ticked up yesterday 65 percent in Ohio, 16 percent in California, 38 percent in Illinois and 33 percent in New York, the FBI data show, and increased nationally about 5 percent.

Federally tracked gun sales, which are drawn from sales in gun stores that require a federal background check, also jumped following the 2007 massacre at Virginia Tech, in which 32 people were killed.
No corresponding data detailing how sales of DEMON WEED are proceeding in the wake of this weekend's tragedy, but one has to imagine that they're up, if only because so many people maybe want to dull the pain that comes when you realize that you are surrounded by gun-crazy maniacs.

Shame, but it really is a good, reliable weapon. I have one for self preservation...

This Glock is the most popular Glock of all time. I heard the 33 rd magazine he used is flying off the shelves as well. I own guns but I think the 33 rd should be banned. They will probably succeed in banning it.

I thought that chic getting a point blank shot to the head and surviving would have been bad press for glock

People are afraid of more regulation on guns now.. With all these guns out there I'll be getting a bullet proof vest...

Before this happened I was thinking about getting an XDm 3.8 ... after this happened, I'm still thinking about getting that gun.

they already did ban that clip
the ban expired in 2004 and Congress (Rs & Ds) have been too scared of the NRA to reinstate the ban.

same as when they said barrack wanted to ban ar15's, the gun shops must be loving it

I don't think he ever said anything partitually about that gun, people just automatically associated it with him when he talked about banning assault weapons during his campaign. The thing is, sales were starting to drop as people were starting to see that he hasn't said or done anything to ban guns at all during his term. http://mediamatters.org/blog/201012140029

Conservative media is bringing up fear again to stir emotions. I doubt Obama will ever say or do anything about guns during this term but that's not going to stop people from saying he's going to take their guns away.

You should go out and get that..

Also Guns do provide a false sense of security. In order for anyone to have stopped this they would have needed to have their gun on them, have it loaded, and know how to react when bullets start flying.

Most people with those type of skills are hardened criminals, law enforcement and the military...

I never knew that the ban on those magazines expired. I have a Glock that I purchased in 93 with the 18 rd mags so I probably need to just get new magazines since mine are so old. Just wondering how this fool slipped thru the cracks. :hmm:

He slipped through the cracks because he was never institutionalized or legally identified as a person with a mental illness. But even if he had been listed, its still possible he would have gotten a gun. AZ has only entered a fraction of the mentally ill into the federal database.

:yes::yes:

It's not as easy as people think. If you've never been in a situation like that before, how you gonna respond effectively?

the shop i work at, we sold 0 glocks today, but i did here some of that bullshit talk about glock 18 mags , you all have no idea the shit i hear about bans, obama, and gun control on a regular basis. blame the end-user not the tool used, that concept misses people

I think folks are also purchasing them because they know they will get banned. What do you need 33 in the clip for? Hmmm to shoot a deer. Probably would be good for a bear attack. The assault weapons ban will return. Betcha bottom dollar.

True. A 33 round clip is only for play at a gun range. Shit will actually get in your way in a real gunfight. Here is a youtube vid of a guy shooting a glock 26 (9mm). This gun is actually the lil brother to the gun the AZ shooter used (glock 19-9mm)

One of the guys who held him down DID have a gun on him. He bragged about how he carries it on him every day, every where he goes. Talked a lot of smack about how he would have killed him if he had to ...

Ducking 30+ rounds later (and not even drawing his weapon once) he was thanking God he didn't have to kill the guy.:hmm:

The bullet passed clear through her head. I have no idea how shes still alive.

It didn't cross hemispheres wasn't very deep into the brain, and the fact that it passed through is great because they didn't have to go in to retrieve it causing further damage.
